WHO: Jake and Open WHAT: Jake goes snooping WHEN: Bendy times WHERE: The woods, near the Nemeton WARNINGS: TBD
One thing was for sure, there was never a dull moment in Los Angeles. Jake was learning that quickly. From not only the day to day work working for the LAPD, but also the challenges (which is what he assumed they were) that he had heard about. He didn't expect his time here to be easy and it wasn't. He no longer visited the barrier everyday like he had been, but he did notice when the barrier cracked and from what he heard, fell. It was almost freedom. Almost. But Jake knew very well that almost didn't count.
He had seen first hand what it was like dealing with people who had lost their souls. He went along with Officer Cavanaugh to stop his girlfriend from killing their friend. That was something that was obviously not written up. Jake knew how to keep a secret and he could. He knew things weren't the same here. That not everything had to be passed along, so he did keep his mouth shut about the whole thing. Since then, Toby had told him that Aria had disappeared and that he was taking a few days off to be with Spencer in the aftermath. Everything was screwed up.
But the soul snatching was yesterdays news. There had been word that bodies had left around in the woods, buried in shallow graves and Jake was out investigating an area in the woods, or maybe he was just hoping to catch a glimpse of the killer. He was in civilian clothes, his gun on his hip, a flashlight in his hand as he walked through the woods. Jake had been through here quite a few times because he liked to run in the mornings before his shift, but he rarely came out at night.
Instead of going down a path that he knew, he went another way, walking along until he found a break from the trees and it was nothing but grass.
"What is that?" He said to himself. To him, it looked like a massive stump in the middle of nowhere. If that tree had grown, it would have been huge, but it looked as though it was recently cut down. He frowned, walking closer. He wasn't pulled toward it. There was no pull but the closer he got, he had that feeling he was being watched. He felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up and he turned around, flashing the light, but he saw nothing. He came to the conclusion that it was just the scenery. It was creepy as hell. He turned back around and walked toward it and stopped.
That's when he heard the crunching of twigs, just like he had done, the sound of sticks under his boot and he turned around once again, flashing the light, but also his gun as he had it aimed now.
"Who's out there!?" He yelled out.
Jake.
He froze when he heard her voice. Katie. That couldn't have been possible. He turned around and looked at the stump, seeing nothing. Nobody. But he knew he wasn't alone out here.
