WHO sue and jake
WHAT demon failure
WHERE busy street of LA
WHEN night time
WARNINGS mind powers, violence, and an angry pregnant girl, oh and some blood...
STATUS pending

Talking about her pregnancy on the network had gone surprisingly better then she had thought it would. There, for a moment, she felt like the popular girl she had been back home. She had been the type of girl that had walked down the hall and people went out of their way to say hey. Here? Sue was just another face. She went to work, hung out with her roommates, and struggled with the powers she barely understood.

Her baby was probably going to be more powerful than her or Carrie and it didn't scare her. Oh, it should have. Sue had pretty cracked open a mountain with her mind out of fear and buried a monster inside, but this child inside of her would be able to do so much more. Since the mountain, she had pretty much only lifted books with her mind or other frivolous things. She hadn't exercised the power as much as she should have.

It didn't matter much though. Wasn't like anyone was out to get her or at least that was what she thought. She had spent most of the evening with Carrie and now she was walking the sidewalk by herself as she focused on the cheeseburger she wanted. Cheddar, mayo, pickles, lettuce, with a strawberry shake on the side. God, she could go for fried pickles too. She waited patiently at a crosswalk as she let her foot tap out a beat to the music coming through her headphones.

Tonight wasn't going to be as peaceful as she thought.

A feeling of unease started in her stomach and the hair on the back of her neck stood up. Sue reached up and plucked an earbud out of her ear as she tried to figure out why the baby was upset. A sort of cold seemed to settle around her as she noticed things seemed oddly silent. Cars were going by, people were few and far between, but something was coming.

They said death came unannounced, but she heard the footsteps easily enough.

Sue popped the earbud back into her ear as she turned to meet the grotesque thing walking towards her. A man, of sorts, blurred dangerously around the edges. He was out of focus and it kind of hurt her eyes to try and focus on him as if there was some extreme strain there. What really bothered her was the fact his face was blank, no features, except for two startling red eyes. They glowed red with the fires of Hell. She could see her end in them.

Soulless. Oh, she knew demons were stealing souls, but somehow she hadn't thought she'd be one of the victims. Her feet stumbled backward, into the intersection, as the thing opened a mouth and screamed. The sound sent a shock wave through her and she was suddenly very glad music was blaring in her ears so she hadn't heard it at the full volume.

"Not tonight," she planted her feet as the demon advanced. "You aren't getting anywhere near me or my baby," she thrust her hands out and did more than flex her powers. The street began to rumble under her feet as it heaved dangerously. Car alarms started going off around her, a groaning and creaking sound filled the air, but Sue kept going. The demon was still trying to walk towards her even as the pavement bucked like a chaotic river. She flicked her gaze towards a parked car and jerked her chin, feeling a surge of power from the child inside of her, and the car went sailing through the air. It slammed into the demon with a nasty metallic sound. Grinding, deadly, and a bit wet.

And of course, it didn't stop the thing.

Sue backed up a few more steps as the car was tossed aside like a piece of tissue paper.

Ichor oozed from an injury, but those fiery eyes only blazed brighter.

"I said no. No means no, asshole," she twisted her fingers in the air and prayed no one else was going to get caught in the crossfire. The street ripped open under the demon. Just as the demon was going under she slammed the pieces of the road back together. Flesh, even demon flesh, couldn't withstand a sort of pavement guillotine. Bloody ichor erupted everywhere as the head of the demon was removed rather soundly from its body.

The feeling of unease vanished and she sank to her knees just as the nosebleed began. Sue pressed her hand to her nose as she stared at the scene in front of her. Cars, damaged. Buildings nearest the scene had cracks in their foundations, but the worst was the street.

Oh God, what had she done?

The demon head was turning into some gross black slime before her eyes and she wanted to cry. No, scratch that, she wanted to eat a giant plate of nachos. Something was wrong with her. She had just killed something inhuman and she wanted food.

"Oh God," she breathed out. If Tommy could see her now what would he even think?

Jake needed a break. As highly amusing as that would have seemed to the Circle, it was true. It seemed like one thing after another just kept coming and hitting them. Stronger and stronger. Jake was usually the calm, cool, collected, standoffish guy but even he could feel the weight of it all.

First Nick's arrival. Fuck. That had thrown him. He had always been a shitty brother and he knew that. He didn't know how to be anything else. And by the time he wanted to be it was too late. This was the second time Nick had come back into his life and at least here it seemed to be the real thing. They were all kinds of dysfunctional but Jake was trying. And then Nick's soul had been taken and things were back to square one.

Then there was Cassie. Cassie had been the level headed one. The one who knew better and now her soul was gone too. Then the new people from another world that were supposed to be part of their circle too? His cousin that he had never met but knew Nick. None of them knew him so it was like he didn't even exist in their world which competely blew his mind.

What the fuck was going on?

He just needed a breather which was why he was out alone. And how he got to witness the blonde's not so little show.

He rushed over when she was sank to her knees and Jake slowed as he approached her not wanting to be the next one she went off on. "Hey." He called out. He knew here from the network. Had seen her baby color thing post. "You okay?" He finally reached out and touched her shoulder. "Come on, we shouldn't stay here." The cops would show up soon and the last thing she needed was them asking questions and he wasn't about to just leave her there.

Sue barely heard his voice, but there was no feeling of warning. She didn't lash out with her power. No, she just kept her hand over her lower face as she continued to have the nosebleed. Whiplash from using so much power so fast. Slowly she turned her gaze up towards the guy and blinked at him.

Cops.

Oh God! Cops.

The last thing she needed was to be caught at the scene of this. Sure, she had been defending herself and her unborn child, but cops might not believe her. This whole thing was pretty unbelievable. "I'm fine, I think." She pushed herself up off the ground and winced slightly at the ache in her back. There was this new type of exhaustion settling into her bones. Plus, she was really starving now.

"Aren't you afraid I'm going to hurt you," she said through her hand.

Probably not the time to ask that question, but she was curious why he was helping her. Why wasn't he just running away in terror at her display of power? At this point, she was starting to wonder if the power belonged to her baby alone and she was just borrowing it.

"Okay. Okay, yes, let's get out of here...but where ever I am running to better have burgers and fries." She needed to eat, rest, and try not to freak out about decapitating a demon. This time she didn't pass out and she was quite thankful for that. Passing out in the middle of an intersection was not on the top of her to-do list.

God, why couldn't life be normal anymore?

The last thing Jake wanted was to have to deal with shitty ass LA cops trying to get information on this crazy ass shit. Jake wasn't even sure what he was dealing with here. Sue looked as sweet as fucking pie on the outside but inside? She had something extremely powerful. Jake could practically feel it when he touched her.

Reaching into his jacket pocket he pulled out the black bandana he had stuffed away and handed it to her for her nose. He eyed her over to make sure there was nothing else wrong with her before he started to lead he away from the scene of the demolished demon.

"Should I be scared?" It was a legit question that Jake wasn't afraid to ask. If she wanted she could probably take him out. Jake was strong on his own with his solo magic but damn. Sue was stronger. He wondered if she could feel his power like he could feel hers. If anything him not being scared should have told her that he was used to some crazy ass shit like this.

"Leave it to preggo to want food right now." He eyed her with the tiniest of smiles as he led her to the in and out burger place. At least she could get cleaned up before she devoured a burger or two anr Jake could make sure that she was good in the process. "I'm Jake. And you're..." Preggo. That was what he was calling her since seeing her post on the net. Because he couldn't think of her actual name for the life of him.
