WHO: Jake and Betty
WHAT: Talking
WHEN: Bendy time
WHERE: At the barrier
WARNINGS: Probs some depressing shit.
Jake was still wrapping his mind around actually being here. It was less than a week ago that everything in his life was falling apart and slowly, it was being put back together. The virus had spread so quickly and people had only two days to live. Luckily, Jake and Dr. Cannerts were able to find another person with the antibody that could help with the cure to the virus. The city was still quarantined, but they were at least a step in the right direction. It didn't take away the emptiness though. Jake was a man of different layers and the truth was, nobody saw them. He didn't let them see it. He kept himself closed up, he never said how he felt, he didn't get close - he didn't want to. At least not until her.
He tried to not think of her, but it was difficult. Katie, throughout all of this, had been the one person he grew close to despite him actually wanting to. He didn't want to let her in, but he did, he cared about her, he cared about her Quentin, her son and he wondered what he was doing now. God, he closed his eyes and he saw her. Not from the last time he saw her, but times before that. The last time he saw her, she was hemorrhaging and choking on her own blood. Convulsing. She had gotten the virus and some part of him wanted more than anything for there to be a loophole - something they didn't know, something that would fix her.
There wasn't.
Jake had put on all the protective gear he could in order to not get the virus, just so he could be there inside with her and hold her. He didn't want her to die alone. He didn't want her to die without knowing that yes, he did love her. He loved her so much and to think about it right now, it could easily break him. But he kept himself together. Especially considering he was on duty.
He was driving around, not exactly heading toward a destination. He had been curious about the barrier and he had gone there a few times. It was true. A barrier. See through - Jake could see on the other side, but he couldn't get there. He didn't realize it until he was there, once again and he parked before getting out. He was in uniform and he didn't think he would be bothered but he did notice a blond there.
"Hey," he called out, looking her over before he walked toward her.
"You alright?"
