Temperance IC/OOC Who: All of Temperance When: 4pm 2/14/18 Where: Temperance HQ - University district What: Mandatory meeting
“Good afternoon,” Weston Anderson began then paused, waiting for any lingering conversation to die down. He was at the front of a conference room, standing before the entire organization. In their current circumstances it suddenly seemed so small- too small, full of unsuspecting people with completely normal lives that were about to be turned upside down.
“I imagine you’ve already come to the conclusion that this is not a social call, so let’s get right down to it. You will recall that when you were hired you were required to obtain security clearance. Today you will find out why. It will be difficult to believe much of what I’m about to tell you, but every word of it is true.
“I’ve called you here today to tell you that the Yellowstone Caldera is not what it seems. It is supervolcano, of course, but it’s also a source of a different kind of power---” he cut himself off as though, in an uncharacteristic display of hesitation, he was unsure how to continue. “--supernatural power,” he continued. “It is not unique in this sense, as all volcanic calderas are similar sources of power; however, ours is damaged and as such is displaying unusual and troublesome behavior.. To mitigate the results of the damage, our Caldera was sealed over a century ago so that the residents of the surrounding area could continue to live in peace.
“You may have noticed that strange things have been occurring around our town with increasing frequency over the last couple of years. Some of you may have even noticed strange things happening to yourselves, and I’m here to inform you that these occurrences are a direct result of the seal on the Caldera beginning to fail.”
Weston paused to allow for the expected and understandable mumblings that inevitably follow the sort of statement. His eyes drifted to Ben Canton, where he sat looking exhausted and sullen before he continued again.
“Our organization,” he said slowly, “Is also not what it seems. The purpose of Temperance for the past century has been that of archivists and researchers, but true purpose of our organization, the reason it was founded, was to protect the public from supernatural threats generated by the Yellowstone Caldera. As of last night, that purpose has once again become relevant and we must evolve in order to fulfill it. In order to do this, we will need to be restructured to suit these new responsibilities. You will be given this evening to ask questions and allow all of this information to sink in, but as of tomorrow morning we will begin working around the clock to create a new organization structure that will allow us to rise up to meet these challenges.
“Over the next few weeks, as we go through our files that were previously sealed and get a better understand of what we are dealing with, you will be briefed on more details of our organization’s past and our new responsibilities. On top of our restructuring, recruitment, and planning for how we will re-seal the Caldera, we will need to protect our home and our neighbors. We are their last line of defense against the darkness our Caldera is producing.
“I imagine that you all have questions. I will now answer them to the very best of my ability.”
