After the disappearance of Trevor Harkonnen in July, the Hogwarts Board of Governors set to the task of vetting the new crop of Defence Against the Dark Arts applicants and a selection has finally been made. Alia Lynch will be the next individual to take on the position. Since the retirement of Professor Galatea Merrythought in 1945, the position has been a revolving door of experts with none able to hold onto the placement for more than a year. With a variety of mysterious incidents and accidents with sometimes fatal outcomes eliminating the Professors one by one over the last thirty-five years, it has become more and more difficult to find willing and qualified applicants, but Ms. Lynch seems to think that she has what it takes to finally break the curse. The former cursebreaker, stationed in Egypt for the majority of her career, returned to England a few years ago to settle into a quieter life overseeing operations at Gringotts. While rumours have circulated among her colleagues that Lynch had lost the stomach for Cursebreaking, her application and appointment to the position of Defence Professor has changed their tune. “I always knew Alia was brave,” says fellow cursebreaker Roderick Lochrin, “but I never thought she was this side of bonkers. The girl’s got to know what she’s getting herself into, but more power to her if she thinks she can teach them [sic] children and still keep her skin intact.” Alia will be joined next year by Sybil Trelawney, who will be taking over the Divinations position after the retirement of long standing professor Inigo Imago, and Minerva McGongall who will be stepping up to fill the role of Headmaster that was left vacant after the sudden death of Albus Dumbledore. There is no word yet on whether Headmistress McGonagall will be seeking a replacement for the position of Transfiguration professor as well. |
