Squinting she strained her eyes, trying to see what was hidden in the bushes surrounding her camp. Scanning the densely packed foliage she carefully walked forward, daggers at the ready. Stepping around her earlier seat she walked further away from her fire and into the surrounding darkness.
The creature didn’t seem to be moving anymore, there were no more shuffling sounds but she could hear it breathing. Pausing a few paces from the bushes she tried to gauge its position from her location. Head cocked to the side she slowly crept in the creature’s direction.
Her eyes were gradually starting to adjust to the dim light now that she was away from the bright flames but it was almost impossible to see anything midst the plants. Searching the bushes for any sign of what was lurking there she suddenly blinked, her head jerking back. Fighting down the urge to take a step back into the comforting glow of the fire she stood her ground. Why of all things, did it need to be a bear?
In front of her she could make out a hulking shadow of the great animal, its back heaving up and down with every breath. Its head was canted to the side, sniffing at the air, practically drooling. It seemed to be ignoring her, all of its attention focused on the simmering pot of soup over the fire. While it was good that the bear had no interest in her she wasn’t about to let it just run off with her dinner. It would be best to either drive the animal off or kill it before it came charging into her camp, destroying everything in its way.
Gritting her teeth she stared at it for a moment longer then pulled one arm back behind her head. Throwing her arm forward she flicked her wrist and threw one dagger right at the bear’s shoulder. As the animal reared back in shock and pain Seda took the opportunity to run in close and leap on the bear’s back. Grappling for purchase she pulled herself up onto its back and hung on as she was jerked around. Digging her fingers into the thick pelt she held on as tightly as she could and drew back her arm. Dagger held aloft she prepared to thrust it down into the intruder’s neck.
