Kore took the bowl from him and gladly crossed over to the cooler part of the room. She blew carefully across the top, sending ripples through the stock, and then sipped slowly just off the top. Her impatience did not pay off, as it was still too hot, but she was very hungry. The warmth of the soup coiled in her stomach, made all the more obvious from its otherwise emptiness.
She put the soup to the side, her lips red from the slight scalding she had received. It occurred to her that she was really putting too much on Lorius, that he had to take care of the home and their younger sister while also helping out with money by doing odd chores. It made her heart twinge, and should thought quickly as to what she could do to help him out. Taking Amele to the proving grounds was out of the question, it caused a skitter of anxiety through her, as she knew that if she lost track of the girl for a second she could be lost forever.
On the other hand, perhaps there was someone she could ask to come over to the house during the day. Or someone she could take Amele to while they were away. When Kore was young, Amele's age or less, she could vaguely remember an older woman taking care of her. Perhaps it was their grandmother, but she could not recall well enough to know for sure, and their mother certainly was not going to talk about it.
Still, perhaps there was someone...Lorius would know better than she would, he knew more of the locals. "Lori, do you know anyone who could take care of Amele during the day? Maybe someone with kids too that could take her on for a few coppers...a month maybe? We could spare a few, and then you wouldn't have to worry about so much."
