Friday, December 22, 2017 - Missing Persons
WHO: Miles Hastings, Simon Brantley
WHAT: Discussing the Mendoza-Rivera case and Maya Stone
WHERE: Auror offices
WHEN: Just after this
WHY: Because Miles just can't catch a break sometimes.
RATING: Maybe cursing?
STATUS: Ongoing
As soon as the meeting was officially called, Miles led Simon out of the office in relative silence. He pointed out a place where the other Auror could camp out as needed until he had a permanent desk assignment, and then swung by his own desk to grab the appropriate file before he led Simon to one of the empty offices that sometimes doubled as a small meeting room. He tossed the file on the desk and pulled out one of the chairs, but then found that he couldn't sit. He had a lot of much restless energy after this morning's events, but he didn't want to give the impression that he was nervous, since that wasn't even remotely the source of his agitation.
Miles rested a hand on the wall next to the window and gazed out across the city—or as much as he could see from this vantage point, which wasn't much. "On December 13th, Wizards Council Delegate Melinda Mendoza-Rivera reported a series of threatening letters that escalated to the receipt of a disturbing package. It was notable because it was the first that had been directed to her home as personal mail rather than to her office." He turned back to flip the file folder open to the photographs of the rat king. He didn't need that glance to remember the odor that had been seered into the back of his brain.
He briefly detailed the investigation and interactions with the Delegate over the last week, some of which had been his assignment and some that had not. Simon would have the file if later he wanted it directly from the reports rather than Miles's summary of them. "Two days ago, she received another letter." He flipped a few more pages to that photograph. "And now, we have a series of WizPix posts that appear to be related."
Miles finished his summary by pulling his phone and putting it on the desktop, turning it so that Simon could see the screen, where the first of the posts was visible.
