After his talk with Brigid, Alistair had apparated back to his office to grab the vial of memories and the notes he'd taken regarding the things he'd learned from the Aurors over the last week. He was antsy in a way to which he was unaccustomed; not afraid, exactly, but with a similar sense of wanting to watch over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't missing something. It was infinitely better to be inside Miguel's house among friends, and Alistair didn't waste much time with pleasantries, but rather requested that they sit in the living room to chat. No reason to stand inside the door, no matter how potentially dire it might be.
"This might not make any sense even if I start at the beginning, but I think I'll start there anyway," he said, in an attempt at levity. He was far too tense for more than a small chuckle, though. "The Aurors who are here from New York have come to see me a few times this week. I've helped them out as I could, mostly with tracking phones, pulling data dumps...the usual. One of those times was Sunday night, when I helped an Auror Staunton-Perksmoore go through WizPix posts looking for patterns that might help them figure out what happened to the Aurors that resulted in Saturday night's insanity." As an aside to Miguel, he added, "You remember Alexander? My old friend from Ilvermorny? She's his little sister, believe it or not. Pretty skilled Legilimens, from what I understand. She picked out some photos and seemed to think that the incident was somehow tied to a local brewery."
Alistair leaned back in his seat and ran a hand through his hair, wishing there was a way to cut to the chase without making for such a long story, but he didn't think shortcuts would help. "I didn't think much of it at the time, but this morning's visit was more serious. The Aurors are looking for Bobby Dedworth—you know, the beer kid—not just in conjunction with Saturday night, but somehow in relation to the murders of Grace Adler and Daniel Williams." He paused to let that sink in for a moment. He couldn't remember if they'd discussed Dedworth specifically, but they'd spent plenty of conversation on the state of Salem in general, so it was entirely possible his name had come up.
"I don't know many details on that, but they seemed sure." He could get into the tablet and the mention of the Liasion office in the files he unlocked later, if necessary. "While this has been going on, I've been getting some strange messages through WizPix today. I decided to explore it on a hunch, and that's gotten me to the reason we're having this conversation at midnight rather than as a subject of intellectual discourse over dinner." He pulled the memory vial out of his inner jacket pocket and set it on the table. "My mysterious correspondent seems to want me to...well, mete out justice, for lack of a better phrase. This was delivered to my offices this evening. I'm pretty sure there's been alterations done on them, but I've never heard of someone entirely fabricating memories, so my assumption is that at least some of the content is accurate." He would let them watch it to confirm his perceptions, but for now the summary would have to do. "It shows Auror Staunton-Perksmoore visiting Alesmith Aleworks Brewery, learning some information about Bobby Dedworth...and Brigid having someone erase the Auror's memory of both."
