I will find a way out, no matter what I have to do. Who: Lucius Malfoy (with appearances by numerous cronies) What: Making their own attempt to break the barrier. Where: The very end of Knockturn Alley. When: Friday, 22nd of August, late at night.
The sky overhead was dark, though it seemed hazy thanks to the opaque shimmer of the barrier ahead. The damned barrier; it was the reason he was trapped in this infernal place with a bunch of imbeciles and dirty mudbloods. That dimwit of a Minister clearly wasn't doing anything to help; as if Shacklebolt could figure out something that was obviously beyond his intelligence and talent. Lucius Malfoy was tired of waiting, and he was determined to take matters into his own hands.
"Yaxley!" He snapped with authority to the man standing to his left. "Stand at the corner there and make sure no one is coming down Knockturn that might catch us." It was nighttime and he was sure there wouldn't be too many people out and about, especially around Knockturn, but it never hurt to be careful.
"Yes, Lucius," Yaxley replied softly as he hurried to the corner Lucius had indicated and stood still with his arms crossed and his eyes focused ahead of him. "Rowle, Jugson, Selwyn," he listed the names of three black-clocked men standing in a group to his right, "With me, wands out." He walked quickly and with purpose as he led the group of three to the barrier, with the hulking masses of Radulf Goyle and Brevis Crabbe for protection behind them.
The small group reached the end of the Alley, where a sizable gap between two buildings revealed the opaque banner to their eyes. In a smooth movement, Lucius lifted his cane and smoothly turned the snake's head to pull out his wand. It was new, since the Dark Lord had commandeered his and then subsequently managed to let Potter destroy it. Where the other had been made of Elm with a dragon heartstring core, this was made of Yew and dragon heartstring. It was a very well designed wand, at least in Lucius' opinion.
Ranged on either side of him, Rowle, Jugson and Selwyn pulled their wands as well, and all four pointed them at the barrier in front of them. "On my word," Lucius said softly and commandingly. He paused only for a moment and then whispered, "Fire!" At exactly the same time, each of the four silent cast a different curse aimed at the same spot on the barrier. There was an almost blinding flash of red light and then a fizzing noise as the curses hit the barrier, releasing a small cloud of smoke.
Lucius coughed, his hand slipping up to smooth back the stray strand of white-blond hair that had fallen in his face. He took several steps forward and waved his hand in the air to clear the smoke around him. When the air in front of the barrier cleared, Lucius blinked several times and then muttered, "Damn." The barrier was still intact, but in the spot the curses had hit was a dark black spot about the size of a Quaffle.
"Did it work, Lucius?" The tall pale wizard turned to see Radulf Goyle staring at him with his usual expectant and idiotic face.
Lucius snapped his hand out towards the barrier and hissed disdainfully, "What do you think, Radulf?" His drew his hand forward, slipping his wand back into his cane much less delicately than normal. Long strands of hair fell into his face as he shook it quickly from side to side and muttered, "Obviously, it didn't work. And we don't have time to try it again." He glanced around at the buildings around them, eyes skimming over windows that were still dark- for now. "Someone might have seen the light from our spells."
He took several hurried strides forward and snapped at the men beside him. "Come! We will try again some other time."
Damned if I'm going to be trapped in this Hell for much longer. I will find a way out, no matter what I have to do.
