"Just because I'm registered doesn't mean most people won't freak the fuck out and try to burn me alive or something once they find out what I am." And okay, maybe the burning had only happened once. But a reaction like TJ's was so outside of the norm that he still hadn't fully wrapped his head around it. At the very least he expected fear. Or disgust.
He watched as TJ walked to the window, and sensed there was a lot the other man wasn't telling him. Which was fine, Tomas knew better than most the importance of secrets.
"I do whatever jobs the Ministry let's me keep. Lately it's been building stuff for the new villages. Sporadic work, but pays enough for a beer and a stew now and then. Better than nothing, which is pretty much the only other option."
Clearly the alcohol hadn't completely left his system, because he never spoke this much about himself. His usual answer to this question was 'this and that.' Or maybe it just felt stupid to disemble with someone he'd just shagged senseless.
