Anna nodded in agreement. "It certainly seems that way." It wasn't so bad here. It could have been much worse. And now that Bates was here, she was actually happy. If she hadn't had him, she didn't know what she would have done on board this ship. He was the only thing that really kept her sane.
Going behind Mary, Anna set the brush and the pins down on the table and started to section her hair and pin them up. It was certainly easier to do this when you could see the back of someone's head.
