Arthur couldn't help but smile at the way Matthew looked at Mary. "I'm sure that even though Matthew must be at least slightly biased, it will be lovely," he said.
Mary smiled, giving Matthew a fond look as she arranged cups on a tray. She poured water into the teapot and carried it all to the table. Arthur moved to take a seat, making sure that there were two seats together free for Matthew and Mary.
She poured a cup of tea, adding a dash of milk. "I shan't add sugar," she said. "If you feel it needs sweetening you can help yourself." She handed Arthur the cup, and then set about pouring a cup for Matthew.
