He was quite flustered. She found it quite endearing.
"Yes," she said. "There is."
She paused when he said he had never had use for them. She hadn't known what to expect, really. It wasn't generally assumed that men would be perfectly pure on their wedding night, a fact that had made her angry at first. Now, she was resigned to the double standard. But she did like the idea that Matthew would be with no one else but her.
Which, of course, she could not give him. She glanced at her hands, her confidence suddenly seeming to evaporate. "I - I'm glad," she managed to say.
She could, however, give him one thing. "Even though I am not - though I have -" She sighed, impatient with herself for her inability to articulate this.
"I am still a virgin," she said, bluntly, feeling a flush rise in her cheeks.
