"Quite," Mary agreed, turning to face the mirror as Anna went to work on her hair. "It's all very well getting the vote and so on, but if men insist on treating us like we're made of glass very little will actually change."
Mary met Anna's eyes in the mirror, smiling. "I have no intention of giving up," she said confidently. "He'll see the light eventually, I am sure."
"You must miss him dreadfully," she added, her voice softer.
