She returned the smile. "I am sure my making tea would be the least of Granny's worries if she were here," she said. She glanced down at her clothes again, and decided to focus on the tea before she began to feel even more self-conscious about it.
She filled the electric kettle, and set it to boil while she gathered the cups and teapot. Once it had boiled, she warmed the pot, added the tea leaves and water, and brought everything to the table - along with a packet of biscuits.
She poured Matthew a cup, adding milk and sugar the way he liked it, and handed it to him.
"I hardly need to tell you to be honest with me," she said, with a smile. "If it is horrid you must tell me."
