He'd insisted on doing far more than he should while searching for Charley. Only when he was too exhausted to stand had he allowed himself to be guided back to his room. He was stretched out on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. He refused to sleep until he knew she was safe.
"Charley," he said hoarsely, pulling himself up when she entered. His face was haggard and worn. He took two steps towards her before his legs gave out. He caught himself on the arm of a chair before he completely fell over.
