He had promised to work out a way to recharge Kroton's batteries, since the Cyberman couldn't rely on solar power on the TARDIS, after all. Oh, he could glean some power from the artificial sunlight in the menagerie and the gardens, but it wasn't really strong enough for his needs. The Doctor wanted to construct a way for him to charge quickly and efficiently, so he didn't have to spend hours doing so and could have time to enjoy himself.
He'd opened an access panel under the console and was reconnecting wires. They may not have been able to get the old girl working properly yet, but he had no doubt he could reroute a little power to help his friend. The tricky bit would be making it safely accessible. He knew that Kroton could withstand quite a bit of electricity--from experience--but it would do him no good to have it wash ineffectually over his shell. It needed to be grounded and channeled into his battery.
So he was connecting cables to a type of plug arrangement he'd worked up. It wasn't perfect, of course, designed on the fly without proper parts as it was, but he thought it would do. And it would have, too, if something hadn't slipped. He didn't even have time to realize what had happened before a jolt shot through him. A scream was torn from him as his body convulsed in agony.
