Grantaire squeezed Enjolras’ hand as they walked towards Brooke’s room.
“Sure you don’t want to change your mind?” he asked with a smile.
--
Enjolras shook his head. “I am sure. I want this. Are you sure that you don’t want to change your mind?”
--
He shook his head too. “Not at all.”
He grinned, squeezing Enjolras’ hand before knocking on Brooke’s door.
She answered a minute later. “Hey - Oh! Hey.” She looked between them.
Grantaire smiled. “Hi. Do you have time to talk?”
She nodded. “Sure, come in.” She stepped aside.
--
Enjolras smiled widely at her. He stepped inside. “Thank you,” he said. He kept holding Grantaire’s hand.
--
Brooke smiled as they moved to the couch. “I would ask if you made a decision, but I’m guessing you have.”
Grantaire nodded. “We have.” He smiled wider.
Brooke laughed. “Okay, I don’t even think I need to ask. Because that looks like the face of someone who just decided to have a baby.”
--
Enjolras smiled wider too when she said she guessed they had made a decision and he squeezed Gantaire’s hand.
“Yes, we have decided to take your offer.”
--
Brooke grinned. “That’s so great!”
Grantaire smiled. “Thank you. So much. We’re - very happy you offered, and …. so grateful.”
She leaned forward. “I’m looking forward to it. I haven’t like, asked anyone at the infirmary but like… I don’t think it’ll be a problem. I mean, they have so many futuristic stuff there and basically all we need is a turkey baster. But we should call by and talk to them. And I need to come off birth control.”
--
Enjolras nodded his head. "Yes, we are so very grateful. Thank you so much, Brooke."
He nodded his head as she spoke about going to the infirmary. "Do you know if it is possible for it to be an equal chance that child is mine or Grantaire's."
--
Brooke smiled. “I guess we could use both of your … DNA when we try it. If that’s what you want.”
Grantaire leaned forward. “We’ll see. I want it to be his child, but he finds that undemocratic.” He smiled fondly.
Brooke scrunched up her nose. “That’s really sweet.”
--
"It is undemocratic," Enjolras insisted. "You know I believe in equality and I don't think this situation should be exempt for it either."
--
Grantaire smiled at him. “I’m just saying I think we should … consider having it be yours.”
Brooke smiled. “It won’t be right away anyway,” she said. “I have to go off birth control like I said, so it’ll take time before I can.” She grinned. “But like - it’s very sweet you guys are arguing because you want the baby to be the other guy’s.”
--
"And it still could be mine. There would just be an equal chance it is yours too. And I think that that is something we should consider too."
Enjolras looked at Brooke and smiled. "Well, my husband is gorgeous, no matter how much he denies it."
--
Grantaire shifted slightly. It wasn’t just about the looks. “We’ll see.” He smiled. “As Brooke said, it won’t be right away.”
Brooke nodded. “We should go talk to them. Take the books, get me off birth control and… get ready to make a baby.”
--
He squeezed Grantaire's hand when he shifted. He wondered why he was against it so much.
He smiled widely when she mentioned getting ready to make a baby. That sounded amazing.
--
Grantaire squeezed his hand back, not really wanting to get into it in front of Brooke.
“Yes. Of course. Should we all come?”
Brooke nodded. “Of course. It’s your baby, you can be as involved as you want with all this. All the appointments, the scans…”
Grantaire smiled. “Very. Very involved. Thank you again.”
--
Enjolras nodded his head in agreement. “Yes, very involved. Should we go now?” he asked.
--
Brooke nodded. “Sure. Why not.” She got to her feet. “Are you guys gonna tell people you’re doing this?”
Grantaire looked at Enjolras. “Are we?” he asked.
--
Enjolras looked at Grantaire. “I don’t think that we should. Not until there is a baby to tell people about. What do you think?” he asked. He wanted Grantaire to have a say in all of this too.
--
Grantaire nodded. “Yes. That makes sense.”
Brooke smiled as they walked towards the infirmary. “Yeah. And lots of people still wait until everything’s sure anyway. I’ll tell Jeremy, obviously, but that’s it.”
“Of course,” Grantaire agreed.
--
Enjolras nodded his head. “Yes, I imagine you would need to tell him. I just… do not wish to tell your friends until there is actually a baby to tell them about. It will be easier that way.”
--
Brooke nodded. “Totally.”
Grantaire squeezed Enjolras’ hand. He smiled as they approached the infirmary, excited and nervous for what was to come.
