Grantaire smiled. "They will be edible. I've had to learn a little since coming here. But as I said, this makes it easier than it would be back home."
He set the coffeepot on the tray, dished the eggs into a large bowl and grinned, taking the plate of finished toast from Jehan. "Excellent." He added milk, butter and salt to one tray. "Can you carry the plates and mugs?" he asked.
He paused, then dished up one plate and left it on the counter, then took out his tablet and sent a quick message to Gavroche.
"Gavroche," he said. "He's here. He doesn't eat with us, but I let him know if we've made extra." He nearly always made extra, and hoped Gavroche was eating it. He was sure he would be - Gavroche wouldn't go hungry if food was readily available.
