Ever since Vreth had discovered the garden, he had stayed there. He rarely wandered the TARDIS any more. Instead he devoted his time to making the garden real. With his life blood, he allowed the plants to grow and take root. Where a once normal looking but sterile garden sat, now flourished a wild, luscious place. The grass was soft and vibrant, the flowers in full bloom. And at last, Vreth had found happiness. He had found peace and serenity.
But all of his hard work took its toll on him. No longer did he have the rains to quench his thirst, or the sun to bathe him. He was growing weak, but he did not seem to understand why. And so he sat in the garden, beneath a tree. He looked and he listened and despite all his efforts there was no sound. There was life, but... it wasn't the same. There were no spirits, no wild beasts, nor birds. He had never been so alone... Not even when he was born. Then, the trees whispered to him, they prayed to him. But here? They were silent. At least for now.
Vreth closed his eyes. Pure water tears ran down his cheeks, and above him, the green leaves turned crisp and golden. They fell all about the Forest God, some landing in his long brown hair.
