For Dan, this was more personal that he was used to. He had quite the nasty side when someone had something wrong, usually. Even if he wasn't directly involved. The mess with Stephen Collins, and that idiot Dominic Foy. Dan wouldn't forget seeing Dominic on his hands and knees, bleeding after Stephen had laid into him. Dominic catching Dan and Cid in the next room, listening to everything, taking an entire audio transcript and recording. And the way Dan had looked at him, the way he had spoken to him. Like he was nothing to him. Once Dan and his crew had got what they wanted, Dom meant nothing to him.
But this was a little different. And it confused Dan. Dan wasn't directly involved, just like the last time, but this time, he was actually getting close to this man. At first Dan had played it like he usually had, appearing close while actually being distant. But the more time Dan spent on the TARDIS, the closer he was actually getting to people. And in a way, that scared him.
Dan thought a moment longer before he tried to answer Mark's question. It wasn't the easiest question to answer. After all, it wasn't that Mark disgusted him. Disgust wasn't the right word. Dan just saw him very differently.
Shaking his head, he finished his cigarette. "No, you don't" he replied simply. "Look, just give me some time to get used to all of this" he said, keeping his tone calm and steady. "I'm not going anywhere, all right? But if I need some space, some time to think I'll let you know" he said reassuringly.
