~Introduction.~ [20 Jan 2008|07:34pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

If you've somehow stumbled, or fallen face first into this community, then welcome. Leslie and I are the community mods. Woot! Okay, basically this is a place where we can all share spells, recipes, help eachother, make new friends and all that good witchy stuff.

You could give someone advice on how to perform a spell, or have someone do one for you. It doesn’t matter if you are on the other side of the world. Magic knows no distance. Who knows? You might make a friend for life. It's all about help, sharing, and learning here. The ones of us that haven't been burnt at the stake or tied to a rock and thrown in a lake need to stick together.

This is probably the biggest, and only, rule we have here:

RESPECT EACH OTHER'S BELIEFS!!!

It doesn't mean that you have to believe them, just respect them. Some of you believe that you shouldn't hurt others or work against their will. Others believe that everything is fair game and that you should help people who are a danger to themselves.

There will be NO drama here. If you want to start something here save it for your personal journals. ...If you are being an ass we will ban you.

Get it?
Got it?
Good!

If you post anything, a spell, a ritual, articles, etc, it must have a source listed. If it is something you made yourself, be sure to give yourself credit. If you don't know where you found it, that's fine - just say so. We honestly won't mind at all, the important part is enjoying and sharing.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please don't be afraid to private message either me or Leslie. We don't bite...hard. So, other than that, have fun. These rules and things are posted in the info page so you can't forget them. :P

Okay, that's it. Go join.

Blessed Be,
Ida and Leslie.

Pagan / Wiccan Rules... [20 Jan 2008|08:38pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

Pagan / Wiccan Rules

Unlike other belief systems the Craft does not have a long list of things you should NOT do or eat, or other prohibitions. What it looks to are two simple "rules":::
The Wiccan Rede and The Law of Threefold Return.

The Wiccan Rede simple states:
"An it harm none,
do what you will".

Whilst at first it may appear simple, on examination it is far from an easy ideal. If taken as an absolute "command" it would be impossi9ble to live up to. but if looked at with sense it is easy to interpret. The key word is "will". It's not "wish" or "want" but "will", as in the focusing of your energies in the magical context, the magical harnessing of your willpower.

The Rede is there to guide us and to encourage us to consider the results of our workings: will our magic cause harm, whether deliberate or accidental, to others?

The Law of Threefold Return does not actually originate in the Craft but is derived from older, eastern beliefs. Again it needs to be taken in context, as this instruction is not confined to Witches, or to the working of magic. It is derived from the belief in Karma, with its emphasis on wrongdoing catching you up in this life or the next. It is as well to remember that this is not just a magical rule, but a life rule.

"Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfil,
An it harm none,
Do what you will.
Lest in thine own defence it be,
Ever mind the rule of three"

Witchcraft [20 Jan 2008|08:45pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

Witchcraft
Witchcraft, in various historical, religious and mythical contexts, is the use of certain kinds of alleged supernatural or magical powers. A witch is a person (sometimes specifically female) who engages in witchcraft.

The term witchcraft (and witch) is a controversial one with a complicated history. Witchcraft is viewed differently in different cultures around the globe. Used with entirely different contexts, and within entirely different cultural references, it can take on distinct and often contradictory meanings.

Magic

Magic(k) or sorcery are terms referring to the alleged influencing of events and physical phenomena by supernatural, mystical, or paranormal means. They can refer to cultural complexes of beliefs and practices that believers can resort to in order to wield this supernatural influence; and also, to similar cultural complexes that seek to explain various events and phenomena by supernatural means.

Tarot for Beginners - Part 1

Now kids, I've been doing Tarot for 10 years and thought I might type some stuff up to make it easy for anyone who want to learn about it, and since I'm part of this Asylum, I want to share it with you guys. Hope you like.

Taken from: Collins Gem's book of PREDICTING. A practical guide to the methods of fortune-telling. Includes Palmistry, Tarot, Numerology, Tasseography, and Occidental and Oriental Astrology. It explains the basic techniques of each predicting method.

Any feedback or criticism would be appreciated, especially since I make so many typing mistakes. The post is open for debate and discussion between yourselves. It took me a whole weekend of boredom to type this out! Leslie and Charlie, this is especially for you guys. lol. Hope everyone enjoys the information. Blessed Be!! :o)

*-TAROT-*

The exotically decorated cards of the Tarot have always carried with them an overlay of slightly sinister mystery. For centuries, practitioners of the occult and students of the esoteric arts has been insisting that the Tarot is a special kind of repository for a vast amount of ancient secret lore, all compressed into codes and symbols that only the fully initiated and the very learned can begin to unravel.

Reading the Tea Leaves [20 Jan 2008|09:06pm]
[ mood | calm ]

Reading the Tea Leaves
Source: Kate West

Tea Leaf reading was very popular, but largely died out with the advent of the teabag. However, now that herbal teas are becomming more popular it could be due for a revival. The technique is simple and requires no expensive tools, just loose tea, hot water, a teapot, a cup and a saucer.

Make the tea and let it stand for a few minutes before pouring. Do NOT use a tea strainer! Add milk and sugar to tase if required, stire and let it rest a moment so the leaves sink to the bottom of the cup and do not end up in your mouth. Drink down to the last 1/2 cm of tea. Now swirl the cup three times to resuspend the tea leaves in the liquid, and quickly turn it upside down onto a saucer to catch any spills.

What you have left are groups of tea leaves around the cup. Examin these carefully, you may find it helps to half-close your eyes, and look for shapes in the leaves. Those images on the right, as you hold the cup in your strong hand, are coming and those on the left are departing. Images of Air shapes are to do with communication. Fire indicare passion and urgency. Water images link to your emotional life and to travel. Earth images are linked to the physical. Many shapes are easy to interpret, birds mean messages, mountains indicate obstacles, and so on.

When you cannot easily interpret the shapes you see, it is a good idea to make a quick sketch of them and then come back to it later.

Self-Initiation [20 Jan 2008|10:16pm]
[ mood | crazy ]

INITIATION

Your Initiation is the ritual you perform after you have decided you are ready and want to enter into The Craft. Typically you would wait the traditional year and a day after Dedicating yourself but if you truly consider yourself ready then go ahead. Initiation uses the concept of death and rebirth. You are symbolically reborn into the Craft under a new magickal name. You will make a very solemn oath during your initiation so do not take it lightly, make sure you are ready.

*{+BASICS+OF+KARMA+}* [20 Jan 2008|10:24pm]

*{+BASICS+OF+KARMA+}*

Simply put, karma is the result of previous acts or deeds, either in the past or in past lives. Many people for some reason think there is only 'bad' karma. But think about it, if you owe karma to someone, then someone is in a position to receive a karmic repayment. So there are both positive and negative aspects of karma. In all walks of life, karma is in affect for everyone. But in magickal or spiritual rituals, it is doubly so. What you put out into the universe will come back to you. If you put out good thoughts, energies and intentions, then good is returned to you. By the same token, if you put out negative thoughts, energies and actions, negative events and energies will be returned to you. In magick this is often called the Law of 3-fold, meaning what you put our will be returned to you 3-times over. So be careful what you wish for, YOU will get it!

What Is The 3-Fold Law?
A belief that any energy put out into the divine universe will return to the sender three times. Ancient beliefs state the energy will return to the senders mind, body and spirit, thus the threefold concept. The 9-Fold law (also called the 3x3x3 law) is also practiced by some Craft traditions. The concept is the same, however, the return is a little different. In these traditions, the essence of the mind holds within itself the energy of mind, body and spirit. The essence of the body holds within itself the energy of it's own mind body and spirit. And so for the essence of the spirit. When energy is returned, it comes back 3 times to the Mind, 3 times to the Body and 3 times to the Spirit.

THREEFOLD LAW [20 Jan 2008|10:48pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

THREEFOLD LAW

Also known as the Law of Three, this dictates that whenever we send energy, we will get three times as much back, whether it is bad or good. Always keep this in mind when considering casting a spell.

...what you do WILL catch up with you.

"Ever mind the Rule of Three
Three Times your Acts Return to Thee
This Lesson well, you must learn
Thou only get what Thee dost earn"

The Altar and its tools [20 Jan 2008|10:53pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

The Altar and its tools

The altar can be made of any material, but wood and metal are best. The altar must be large enough to hold all of the tools required for a working (about 2X3 feet is best). It represents earth and is a means of connecting your power and magic to it. It serves as a link between you and the earth as sort of an extension of the earth itself.

The altar sits exactly in the center of the circle facing east, the direction of beginnings and of the rising sun. The altar should be covered with an altar cloth. The color depends on the type of spell work you are performing. White and black are best and can be used for most any type of spell work. A soilable altar cloth is best as you will likely be accidentally spilling things onto it such as oils, herbs, ashes, wine and candle wax.

The altar can be set up indoors or outdoors. A working altar for a circle is carefully put away when your working is done, unless it is out of doors. A decorative shrine type altar dedicated to one or more Gods or Goddesses can be set up anywhere and left up at all times.

SACRED SPACE [20 Jan 2008|11:09pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

SACRED SPACE

There are many ways to create a sacred space. It is more a result of the focusing of will than of the props and special effects. A properly cast circle can be 'felt' by everyone there.

One way to do this for you to begin with is to relax and calm yourself. Now sit in the center of the space you are going to be casting in. Try to be aware of the subtle energies, which are dormant there. Now, gently, reach out with your own inner energy and try to touch that other energy. Once you feel comfortable, now you cast.

Standing with something in your 'active' hand like an athame or wand, see your energy flowing out through the athame (or wand) out into a thin blue line of fire (or whatever imagery suits you). Trace your way around the circle until it is complete. Now, take a moment to 'see' this circle of energy in your mind. Feel it like a swirling cone, a swirling cone of power... touch it and see if you can manipulate it.

Now feel the energy gathering strength, feel it begin to pick up speed... feel yourself directing it faster, more energetic... feel it fill with power and energy from you, your environment, the earth, the core of the earth or he sun, the water that flows through the earth and the air... feel all these elements combine and add power and energy to your circle.

Feel the energy spiral up and become more and more powerful until you feel you may burst then release it or use it in a spell.

Be sure to ground by eating after doing this.

BREW MAGICK [20 Jan 2008|11:25pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

BREW MAGICK

Brews (also known as potions) may be as prosaic as herb tea, or as mystical as rainbow infusion. They stem from early magickal, ritual and medicinal preparations, and are as effective today as they were thousands of years ago.

In herb magick, brews are little more than herbal infusions or teas. They needn't be prepared over an open fire in a forest clearing; your own stove or backyard will do nicely.

The brews on this page answer a variety of needs and are utilized in various ways. Some are drunk, others added to the bath, and still others prepared to release fragrant steam into the air, infusing the area with the sum total of the herb's vibrations.

It's the Water
The type of water used in brewing is of some importance. Well, spring and distilled waters are preferred over that which pours from the tap. You can buy these bottled or collect them from the source, so long as it's unpolluted and free running.

Rain water is ideal for use, except when gathered in smoggy areas. Tap water can be used as a last resort, but consider purchasing the bottled variety in the future.

Distilled water is used for medicinal preparations, "which is fine, but not for magickal operations, for it is inert." If your going to drink the brew (or even if you're not), distilled water is definitely better than chlorinated, fluoridated, bacteria filled tap water. If it's all you have, use it. Seawater and mineral water aren't recommended due to the high mineral content.

Gemstones and Crystals. [20 Jan 2008|11:51pm]
[ mood | content ]

...In every stone there sleeps a crystal....

This is your journey into cyberspace gem magic. Gemology is the study of the history of mineral or organic substances known as gems. It has been said that each of us has deep within the knowledge of all things. And when we ready ourselves to remember this, then the knowledge is there to be known. This wisdom is from the Dead Sea Scrolls. In ancient times forgotten, man's very existence was governed by magic. He believed that tools of the earth could attract the appropriate powers to create the desired effect. He believed, and that was the magic. Positive energy creates our very dreams. You once visualized the very thing you have recently acquired, that was magic. Add the earth elements to your visualization and believe in your dreams because... all things are possible.

Here is a guide from which ancient man existed by without question. He believed that transformation is the essence of magic, and stones help us achieve this by lending their powers and providing focal points for our own energies. Many of us are awakening to the fact that we have become estranged from the earth. Old ways are once again accessible to all who desire to use them. We need not forget the privileges that the present day technology offers us all, but remember we are a part of a living planet. When a stone calls to you to pick it up whether lying in a riverbed or on a velvet pillow, you have just come in contact with your inner self. This is the self you must call up when visualizing your dreams, clutch the stone in your hand while your heart feels that dream...this is your formula for your very own magic.

The powers of the stones will call to you. When have you ever been able to pass a jewelry store or crystal craft table without your gaze being caught by a shining stone? Young children will gaze in amazement and fall under the spell of a stone as soon as they gain sight. How can a few rocks change your life? How could they not! Man has five thousand years of documented stone magic. The fact that our species has survived is evidence in itself. Stone magic is simple, believe the powers in the stones are available to you, they are earthly treasures, and does not the Earth sustain your very existence? You have your answer.

I will alphabetically arrange some of the major stones, which you can purchase without great expense or difficulty. Each stone has an association to a certain power, magic and lore. The magic of the stone may enhance your life.
