Who: Lucius Malfoy & Narcissa Black
What: Meeting with a concerned student after this entry
Where: The Slytherin common room
When: Wednesday evening, after dinner
Status: Complete
Rating: PG-13-ish

Oh join my moonlit masquerade
I ride the wind, dispel your fears
I'm dying to be free
Oh join my moonlit masquerade

Just after posting his school-wide message, Lucius was not surprised to have received immediate [and some interesting] responses. Narcissa Black was never one to openly attempt to speak with him on a more in-depth level, but he imagined that this situation provided her with the perfect opportunity. Try as hard as she might, Lucius could see through the act to the core of the issue, and despite being nonchalant and cool about it in face, his interest had long been piqued.

It was with these thoughts that he returned to the Slytherin common room after a satisfying dinner surrounded by interesting conversations. He'd caught Severus's eye and they shared a moment of neatly masked impatience with the general opinions being spouted. Mulciber also handled himself diplomatically, but Lucius feared that he would be hearing much more about the incident at Diagon Alley over the next few days.

Attempting to momentarily banish the anticipated stresses to come, he seated himself on his favourite armchair next to the blazing hearth. Its warmth encompassed him and permeated through the lush robes that he wore, bringing a much desired calmness to him as he awaited his impromptu meeting with the youngest Black sister.

In truth, Narcissa had not thought further than responding to Lucius post and requesting an audience. It seemed such a perfect opportunity to speak to him alone that she had to take it. But now that it had been approved and a time set, she was at a loss. What could she possibly speak of to him of this matter? It concerned her not, yet she made it seem as if she had some terrible thing on her mind, something that could not be shared with her other friends. She did not know if Lucius were familiar with the students she held conference with in her own year, save for Severus. He knew how close the two were, so it would have to be something that was as important to keep from him. But what?

Dinner passed by without Narcissa eating more than a piece of bread. The wheels in her head were turning and she dared not look at Lucius during the meal. She had to come up with a valid idea, otherwise her plan would be transparent. She had thought herself clever to have come up with something so devious. She would have said anything to get some time with Lucius. He always seemed to preoccupied with school or other matter that she rarely found a way to slip in a word to him. Now she would be able to have his full attention.

Instead of heading straight to the common room after dinner, Narcissa hurried past the after dinner crowd and made her way upstairs. She needed to make herself look presentable and it would give her more time to think of a reason to speak to Lucius. She left off the tie for the evening, instead leaving her blouse open just slightly. She ran a brush through her hair, placing a black hairband in it. She was studying herself in the mirror when the reason came to her. She smiled, gave herself a once over, and made her way down to the common room.

She was happy she had spent some time getting ready for her time with Lucius as it gave the common room some time to clear out. There were a few students here and there, some working on homework and a group whispering in the corner. She only paid so much attention to take note of them before her eyes fell on Lucius. Her heart began to thump against her chest as she saw him sitting next to the hearth; the fire cast shadows on his face, helping to define the lines on his face.

She walked towards him, clearing her throat softly as she approached. "I appreciate you meeting with me," she said, standing in front of him, her hands clasped behind her back.

Looking up from his musings as the fire started to paint pictures in his mind, he gave her a nod and stood, towering before her but presenting a relaxed image. He was usually straight-backed and stiff-lipped in general company and when taking care of his Head Boy duties. However, in this casual, if almost comfortable, setting, he allowed himself to loosen up and perhaps give Narcissa the feeling that he was paying her special attention. After all, he knew how vain the youngest Black sister was, accurately reflected in her very name.

"Of course, Miss Black. If you would like to discuss your issues in a more private setting, I would gladly oblige you. However, if you feel comfortable here, please, do have a seat." He waved toward the large, squashy chair not far from the one he'd just stood up from. If they were going to be meeting to discuss serious topics, surely there was no harm in being comfortable. Although, taking in her appearance, his keen mind starting whirling through the possible issues that she may have. He minutely raised a brow at her casual attire and hairdo, starting to get a feeling that she had requested his presence for some other reason.

For an instance, she was taken aback. She had not thought him to suggest speaking in a more private location and she dared not hope he may have hoped this meeting would be something more than a comfort talk. Still, it was perhaps better not to rush things and she smiled, moving past Lucius. "I think the common room will do nicely, thank you," she said. She opted for the sofa instead of the chair. She had the vain hope he may choose to sit next to her rather than in two separate chairs.

She crossed her legs, smoothing her skirt over them and looked up at him anxiously, wondering how she would begin with their conversation.

"Again, thank you for taking the time to talk. The business in the paper was off putting and I spoke to a friend..." She trailed off, her eyes downcast as she looked at the carpet in front of her. Play it cool Cissy, she thought to herself. Natural. If he truly did not want to speak to you, he would have said so or made an excuse. Use this while you can!

Observing her choice of seat with a very focused gaze, Lucius allowed her to have her little attempt at victory in the situation, sitting instead on the closer armchair as a minor concession. The way she'd purposely arranged her blouse hadn't slipped past his attention; this way, he would get a marvellous view without having to attract too much attention to the fact. He could almost feel the disappointment when he didn't sit next to her, but he couldn't let her win over him so easily. He, after all, was master of this situation, no matter what she may think. Lucius Malfoy was always in control.

"Of course, Miss Black. I can understand how such an incident might rattle you or your friend. How might I assist in this matter? I assure you I will do whatever I can to alleviate any concerns." That he certainly did mean. Even though he had a suspicion as to her motives, if she really did have a problem, he would be more than willing to help her work it out. This care would be similar toward others of his House, but for Narcissa, whom he'd long since been watching with a careful eye, he would offer just a bit more attention.

He leaned slightly forward in anticipation of her response, an open and welcoming expression on his face.

Disappointment was strong as she watched him take a seat elsewhere and felt the smallest twinge of defeat. Still, she would not let this beat her. She lifted her eyes to look at him, studying his face. Perhaps this was a game to him as well. Did he seem to read her so well that he knew what she was really about? She had never been beaten at her own game, yet it was interesting to think he may have caught on. It gave her a little push, a small amount of motivation to try and one up him in it.

"I suppose I just need an ear to talk to," she said, shaking her head. "I'm scared for one of my friends. He means well, he really does. But he...well, he has this past with someone below him. I fear he may go back and have this terrible thing happen to him. I'm afraid I may wake up to find him missing only to turn up later with 'mudblood lover' carved into him." While the story was a lie, she shuddered all the same. She had come to care about Severus a great deal and his obsession with the Evans girl worried her. He tried to convince her that she meant nothing to him now, but she could tell.

She chanced to look at Lucius, to look him in the eyes, wondering if he knew Severus as well as she did. Would he know that was whom she was speaking of?

"I suppose it's silly, thinking of things like that." Her eyes moved away from his, staring idly at the fire. "Still, I can't help but fear a certain...twist in my stomach." She placed a hand over her belly button and shook her head. "I'm being silly, right?" She looked at Lucius, a sort of pleading in her eyes that she knew was convincing. Part was just for him, part was out of real concern.

Taking in what she was saying, he started to imagine the situation unfolding before him. The tale sounded oddly familiar, but right then, he wasn't able to pinpoint just where he'd heard it. Leaning forward a bit more, he clasped both hands before him and leaned on his knees, showing her nothing but the most rapt of attention, half-believing, half-playing along to see if she would break in her demeanour. He was still not entirely convinced that this was about what she claimed, but he didn't let it be obvious that he was questioning her motivations in any regard. Give and take. It was all a game that Lucius was very familiar with, and deliciously good at.

"A situation such as the one you are describing is not silly; on the contrary, it shows excellent character on your part for being so concerned about another's well-being. If I were to place myself in your shoes," at that his brows raised and he offered a very small and fleeting smile, perhaps not caught by Narcissa if she wasn't paying attention, "I would have a serious discussion with this friend and try to pull him back toward the path of rationality. I must assume that this is a Slytherin friend, and if that be the case, the general consensus within our House is that which breeds intolerance for mixing blood in such an impure manner."

All business now, Lucius started involving himself with the matter more intensely, his own bias unable to be concealed. Surely she would agree with him, though, knowing her family's reputation as he did. The Blacks were never shy about their blood purist ideals when in like company. Abraxas and Alcina were certainly very like-minded and made sure to pass those ideals on to their son, who now sat and allowed his gaze to roam across Narcissa Black's very appealing features. Something about the pleading look in her eyes drew him in and kept his engrossed attention focused on her more than he might normally allow himself to be. He could never turn down the temptation of domination, whether that be with words, or with tucking a submissive beneath his wings and offering his superior guidance.

This wasn't the reason she had come to speak with Lucius on such an intimate setting, but she found herself thinking over his advice and laughing slightly at it. "Oh, I've tried before. But every time I begin to speak he either changes the subject or shuts down completely! I don't think he takes me seriously really." She frowned, thinking about it. She had never had a serious conversation with Severus before. It had always been light or on the edge of teasing. If she were to actually voice her opinions, would he take her seriously? Would he actually listen?

"He says blood purity is important to him, but I'm not 100% convinced. I've tried to lead by example and speak to him on the subject, but I'm not sure if he actually takes it in. He may just be nodding his head to be polite or get rid of me." She smiled slightly, her attention turning back to Lucius. "But I suppose you're right. If I sit him down and tell him that it's an actual conversation, he may understand the severity of it."

She smiled and reached over, quickly placing her hand over his and giving it a quick squeeze. It was just enough to bare enough cleavage to hopefully catch his attention as well. "You really were meant for this job," she said. "Listening to other people's problems and helping them resolve it. You'll be a great leader someday." Well that was stating the obvious. Still, it didn't hurt to throw in a nice compliment here and there.

She pulled back and let herself fall into the couch a little more, her hands tucked in the folds of her skirt. Lucius was everything she wanted in a husband. Handsome, cunning, smart, considerate, powerful, and rich. If her parents did not arrange for her to marry him, she would be at a loss. She really couldn't do anything to change that fact, but she had debated on hinting the match to her mother. It was a wonderful one, the Malfoy bloodline almost as long as their own.

Being pulled into her scenario, he listened as she continued to discuss her concerns, his interest growing by the second. Perhaps she had been truthful after all, as the spark within his mind lit and he knew exactly who she was describing. He would never state it aloud, but he'd noted the very same of Severus, often desiring to broach the subject with the younger Slytherin but needing to find a way how. Of any other subordinate to Lucius, Severus was one of the most intelligent and, in a way, unnerving. The air with which he carried himself and his opinions brooked very little discussion against him. And the more he thought about it, the more he realised what a futile conversation it would turn into, if Narcissa really were to take his advice.

Throughout all of his musings, his gaze had concentrated somewhere in the vicinity of her chest, eyes stuck on the bit of skin that revealed itself even more as she grasped onto his hand with her impossibly soft skin. Lucius felt his inner temperature rise at this fleeting touch, gone as quickly as it had appeared. But the dam was cracking and he held no qualms if the tide were to emerge before her. That was, after all, what she seemed to be chasing after. When he gave in, he did so with intensity and all bets would be off. Lucius did not give lightly because of this. Control was everything to him, and yet, sitting here, he felt himself losing it to the hands of this beguiling girl. No, no, his mind corrected, woman. He let himself see her for what she was if only for the moment.

Getting up from his seat, he paced a bit before the fire, waning in its intensity but still emitting a pleasant warmth. Lucius's mind kept turning over the different ways that he could shift this conversation, but yet another glance at Narcissa, and seeing just how she looked at him, and how she sat with hands so perfectly arranged in that submissive way... the cracking dam within him started to threaten a complete rupture. Giving in to the urge, he sat next to her on the sofa and allowed himself to revel in the comfort of the moment. With a respectable enough distance given between them, he hoped to regain a bit of control.

"I am glad that you think so, Narcissa," he began, changing tactics. "You see, it has always been my personal goal to... how shall I put it... conquer those who need to be controlled, or wish to be overtaken by their own will. In a way, you might say that such a desire should be the trait of all Slytherins, but I find many in our House to be particularly lacking in that regard. And then there are others," he turned blazing eyes on her as he leaned back, getting entirely too comfortable and raising a hand to his mouth in thought, "who embody what it means to be cunning and ambitious."

She hadn't planned the evening to turn this way, but she found her thoughts had indeed drifted to Severus and that she had shared information she had almost not known herself. She had almost forgotten her true reason for asking to speak with Lucius tonight until he had stood up from his chair. His sudden movement seemed to stir her from thoughts of her friend and turn once again to the beauty standing in front of her. It was almost too easy to turn topics and she couldn't help but watch him carefully as he paced.

She somehow managed to keep her cool as he came to sit on the same couch and she shifted so she was facing him. This was the closest she had ever come to conquering Lucius Malfoy and she wasn't about to stop here. His words told her he knew her little game and that he would be willing to play...at least she hoped so.

She knew she had him the moment he said her name. Before it had always been 'Ms. Black', but he had finally used it, almost familiarly; she liked it.

She uncrossed her legs, slightly leaning towards him, her eyebrow raised. "Conquer those who need to be controlled...". "I unfortunately must agree with you," she said, stretching her arm out, her fingers brushing against the fabric of the sofa. "I have always admired your strong will and need to teach those their proper place. I must say that I hope to prove myself a true Slytherin through and through. Not only for my family but for my classmates as well. I think it's important that there be a strong leader, both male and female, for them to take after." She prayed it not too forward to say so. She didn't mean to take up any kind of leadership position, but to show Lucius that she was strong and could stand by his side, support him.

Her eyes slipped down to look at his mouth, so inviting. "I'm sure those who exemplify the wisdom of our great house will bring great things for our society one day." Her leg lightly brushed against his. "I can only hope I am apart of that company."

Watching her most carefully, Lucius noted the physical change in her demeanour to accompany the verbal shift. They were stepping away from the original issue, the reason she'd asked to meet with him in the first place, and were shifting pace to an entirely different tune. Lucius played this tune well, having had plenty of practise in refining his tempo; but Narcissa, seemingly so innocent and young, did she have what it took to play the field? He would certainly enjoy taking a gamble if it meant unravelling her and learning the truth behind the pretty veneer. He suspected that within lay a coiled snake, waiting to be let loose if given the right reasons.

Smiling at his own mental imagery, he nibbled on the tips of his fingers for a bit before lowering his hand to the back of the sofa, moistened fingertips close enough to touch her shoulder, if he allowed them to. "You speak in prose, Narcissa Black, but you act in line with your obvious desires to become both ruler and ruled. If I didn't know any better, I might assume that you want to be the conquered that you speak of. And yet —" Lucius paused, steel eyes becoming molten at the touch of her leg against his own trousered one. She was really testing his limits, and being that he was already holding back, he wasn't keen on further restraining himself.

In a moment of domination and complete lucidity of mind regarding his own wants, Lucius moved closer toward her on the sofa and leaned down, brushing his thigh against hers as he reached for the offending leg. Still leaning downward, he meticulously removed her shoe and took hold of the foot covered in a light layer of pantyhose. Even then, there was still a barrier to cross, but he wasn't looking to do that just yet. He needed to demonstrate his control and he would do so on his own terms.

Rubbing the foot lightly, he sat up straighter and draped her leg over his knee, perfectly aware of the position he was literally putting her in. Give and take. It was all such a wonderful game.

"— I find myself willingly obliging," he finished, a confident yet relaxed expression meeting hers, hands still running over her foot.

Narcissa Black has always been able to keep control of a situation she needed to be in charge of. Whether it was something she wanted from her parents, something she needed from her sister, or a little tit for tat with a friend, she never let her guard down to have herself become the weaker of the two. Unfortunately this was not the current case. She had never thought the evening would turn out the way it was and wasn't even sure what it meant. Perhaps some silly flirtations here and there and, if she was lucky, a small kiss. But this was such a strange gesture, yet intimate. For a moment she was left speechless, the only thing audible was the beating of her heart.

He had hit the nail on the head. Narcissa had always loved being in control, the power of it, but she had also liked having that protection that came with being with someone. With Lucius she was beginning to see she could have that and more. She liked seeing the change in his eyes when she touched him, but liked it even more when he took control of the situation once more. So it will be a battle of authority, she thought to herself, a smirk crossing her features.

She shivered as she felt his hand caress her foot and it took all she had to not giggle. A light blush rose to her cheeks and she was suddenly very aware of the people still in the room. This was something she wished to keep just between herself and Lucius, yet she didn't dare break what they had at the moment.

"You may assume correctly," she purred, her voice dropping as she shifted her position on the couch. It was a rather awkward position he had her in; she couldn't move closer to him without compromising where her leg was now. Her fingers still dangled from the couch, yet she touched the sleeve of his shirt. She didn't apply much pressure and could just feel the skin underneath. It was warm from the fire and she desperately wanted to feel it without the constraint of cloth in the way.

"Or perhaps that's just what I want you to think?" Her index finger traced a line down his arm, her fingernail sliding against the smooth fabric until it touched his hand. She looked over at him, her eyes wide and challenging.

This game was quickly developing into a battle of more than simply authority, but of sheer will and nerve. Both of which Lucius had in abundance. Once tempted, he wasn't easily swayed from his desires, and she was making it very clear just what she wanted him to desire. This game of cat and mouse would eventually turn badly if left to his machinations, because whatever other controls he may command, when he gets his way, he possesses. Returning to the realisation that she was still very much a girl trying to play the role of grown woman, Lucius came up with a plot to teach her the meaning of playing this game.

"What I think, Narcissa, may not be what you hope nor expect. I hardly wish to warn you that you face the open mouth of a viper. Be careful how you proceed," his voiced dropped to a lower octave and conveyed the heaviness of his meaning, "lest the snake swallow you whole with no remorse." At that, he dropped her foot and focused all of his attention on that roaming finger, grasping her hand as he turned to face her and pulling her toward him till he had her pressed against his chest. Leaning his face down toward her ear, he let his gaze roam the room and shoot warning looks to the remaining students who quickly turned their heads while others left entirely.

"Try manipulating me again and I will show no mercy," he whispered deceivingly softly, letting his lips brush against the shell of her ear and keeping her hand trapped between their bodies.

It had all been fun and games to her, nothing serious...or so she had thought. She suddenly found herself no longer in the lap of Lucius Malfoy, but her whole body pressing against his. The blush was no obvious on her face as she realized the situation she was in. She prayed he couldn't feel her heart beating against his chest as she felt like it was going to jump out of her own. What had happened? She shivered as she felt his lips against her skin and she closed her eyes. He was truly a master at this and she but a puppet.

Despite the sudden turn of events and her uncertainty, she made herself look at him. Se never thought she would be this close, close enough to count each individual eyelash. He was just as beautiful up close as he was from afar. She suddenly thought back to all of the Quidditch practices and games she had gone to, just to watch him fly. Had he even noticed her then? Or was this just a playing fancy to see how far she would go? She dreaded to think it was the later, but became determined to not let him intimidate her. He may be more skilled and practiced in this area, but it was a game she was confident she could win at. She may find herself on the end of a rope now, but soon she would be making him dance.

"Mercy?" she asked, a small smile playing against her lips. "Pray tell, what mercy is that? It seems you have found my motives in all this, there's no need to keep it hidden. So what mercy do you plan to keep from me? The mercy of falling for your charming, yet assertive ways?" I fear that has already happened. "Or mercy of walking away, leaving another broken heart behind you?"

Despite himself, Lucius was impressed with her ability to thrive in this situation, even in the face of being forced to deal with what she'd unleashed. Precisely what that even was, however, Lucius himself didn't allow himself to think on. He'd been in plenty of similar situations, playing games and testing limits, but never had he felt himself actually want to show mercy, nor had he felt so compelled into action by someone who, in all rights, was his subordinate in some ways, yet his superior in others. The contradictions were many and yet the result was the same: he had Narcissa right where he wanted her, and yet, he couldn't bring himself to use her as he'd done with others.

Brows slowly lowered as he watched her displaying her considerable will before him. That little smile tugged his glance downward and he was so tempted, so very tempted, to answer the call. "You tread a dangerous path even after being warned? I may have underestimated you, but I assure you, it shall not happen again." His voice came out practically in a hiss. Pushing her away from his chest, he released her hand and hovered over her, forcing her to lean back as he shifted to press his body against hers along the sofa, keeping one leg on the floor for balance and good measure, in case he needed to catch himself from giving in.

And then snapping steely greys back to her icy blues, he countered with another profound statement of his own. "My mercy will be something which you can only imagine and later beg me for if you insist on continuing down this path. I warn you, Narcissa, do not try grasping what you cannot handle."

The rules had certainly been thrown out the window and Narcissa found herself in a completely new territory. She had always been in control of the situation and she felt like each minute drained her a little more of that control. She hoped her acting was as good as she practiced it to be; she wanted Lucius to believe she could actually stay on par with him.

"I'm not a little girl Lucius," she said, tilting her chin to look up at him. "If it makes you feel better, you can think you will get that from me, but I think you'll find I'm a lot stronger then you think." She gave him one of her best smiles. "But I'm always up for a challenge and you're proving to be the best one I can find in this terrible castle." She moved to wrap her arms around his neck, her fingers trailing up to his hair. She was always curious about it, wanting to run her fingers in it and found her moment now. It was her turn to move her mouth close to his ear, her lips almost kissing his lobe as she spoke.

"I just wonder if you might have gotten yourself into something you can't control. You can try and try, I may even make you believe you've won. But then I'll go and do something and you'll be right back where you started at." She almost gave him a playful nip, but only nuzzled her nose against him. She couldn't help but take a deep breath, wanting to remember being this close to him. She pulled back, opening her eyes to look at him.

"Let the game begin."

"No, I don't suppose you are," he murmured as she was pulling away from him. He was acutely aware of the fingers running through his hair and he had to clamp down against both being annoyed and simultaneously aroused; she had just unwittingly discovered one of his most well-guarded erogenous zones that instantly ramped up the desires he was already fighting back. None had been allowed to touch his hair in such a manner, but as she made up her own rules in this game, he would make up some of his own, as well.

Leaning toward her face as he'd wanted to earlier, he caught her lips in a quick kiss that meant all sorts of things, least of all affection. He used emotions and desires as a tool for gain, not for compassion or love. Up until that point, Lucius had never considered himself in need of either of those since they would inevitably make him soft. His father had instilled such a harsh lesson in him when he was a mere boy that he'd learned the cold and fast route to securing what he needed without giving of his deeply guarded emotions, of which he tried to deny right now.

"So be it," he affirmed, pushing himself back, drawing the heat of his body just like that, as though he were a ghost. Sitting back at the end of the sofa, he had to covertly adjust himself so that he wouldn't give away just how she'd affected him. He then stood and turned from her to pick up his robes. His resolve firmly etched itself along his face when he turned to look back at her over his shoulder.

"We shall see who emerges the victor, then. And next time," he offered a smirk, "have a real reason to speak with the Head Boy. I have very limited time to deal with frivolities." And just like that, he headed up to the boys' dormitory, needing to get away from the situation and to just bloody cool off.
