Who: Narcissa & Dominic
What: Extensive research of the important kind
When: Backdated to yesterday
Where: The library
Rating: PG
Status: Incomplete

Narcissa had always found Dominic a good fellow to keep company with, not to mention completely charming to look at. She never found herself keeping company as often as she would have liked and if it had not been for Severus, she may have taken him up on the offer of a good snog. Other than their drunken behavior earlier, Narcissa was in desperate need of some physical attention. But she wasn't going to lower herself to finding someone to snog with in a dark classroom and contented herself with the possibility of something pretty. Besides, she was quite curious to know about these elusive Death Eaters as well, although she had a pretty good hunch as to what kind of group it was, as well as some of the members.

She stood outside the library, leaning against the wall, a foot propped up against it and her arms crossed. She was in her full Hogwarts outfit and she was dying to take the robe off. Really, they were always too big and weren't very flattering to her figure. She set her books on the floor next to her, shrugging off the robe and folding it over her arm. There, that was better. She flattened out her skirt and went back to the same position, hugging the books against her chest. She glanced down the hallway, hoping to see Dominic making his way towards her.

There had not been an official time set for their meeting, however Dominic had found himself hurrying down the stairs, heading for Hogwart's Library, bag slung over his shoulders, necktie askew and robes open.

It was only when he was a corridor from his destination that he drew to a stop, sliding against the stone floor, drawing in deep breaths to even himself out, hands raising to smooth his hair back down into place. He was eager to see and speak with Narcissa, and to discuss all that had been happening, to try and find some truth from the half rumors that had come into their school...

However he did not want to appear too eager. He was, after all, Dominic Avery. Like many of the people that he chose to associate with, and knew, Dominic had a reputation and he had long since chosen not to give too much away.

Stepping around the corner, he caught sight of the smooth blonde hair and pretty features that belonged to Narcissa Black and pulled a slight smile into place.

Giving a slight wave, he closed to the distance between them. "Not been waiting too long, have you?"

She saw him round the corner and pushed herself away from the wall, returning the smile. "Not at all," she said. "Just a few minutes, but I tend to run on the earlier side." Two giggling Hufflepuffs came bursting out of the library and Narcissa glared at them, upset that they had interrupted them. Of course it was just small talk, but Hufflepuffs were not the kind of people she wanted interfering with her conversations.

Rolling her eyes, she turned her attention back to Dom, a small smile replacing the look of disgust on her face. "Shall we?" she asked, already heading into the library. Her table wasn't well known to others, at least she hoped not. She didn't want to think of the kinds of people who may have sat there as well. It was past the restricted section, to the right of a stack of books. It wasn't by any other of the tables, but an isolated table by itself.

"I think this will be a good place to talk," she said, setting her books down on the table. "Perhaps we should put up a few wards in case others want to listen in?" It didn't seem likely, but given the nature of their conversation, it never hurt to be on the cautious side.

"You have always been punctual." He had answered, smile persisting even as the Hufflepuffs moved past, his eyes following them without any clear interest in his features; it was unusual for Dominic to even care for any students save for his fellow Slytherins.

He moved just behind her, tugging his bag higher up on his shoulder. "Yes," The word was the only sound he let out, a small agreement that was made all the more clear as he entered the Library with her. Dominic did not spend much time in this place, studying was not his favorite thing as he preferred a good time much better.

The area he was led into was secluded and a touch stuffy. He lowered his bag onto the floor, and tugged his robe off, and draped it over the back of one of the chairs. "Wards would be preferable. You never know who is sneaking around. "

He tugged his wand free from the pocket of his frown, and after frowning in thought for a few stretched out moments, Dominic gave his wand a quick, swishy wave. He might not have enjoyed studying, however he was adapt at magic, and especially nonverbal spells. "Any suggestions, Narcissa? I'm sure you have some interesting spells in that mind of yours'."

Narcissa took her wand from her bag and tapped it against her lip, watching as Dominic gave his own a swish. She smiled, approving of his ability. He was a brilliant wizard and she was interested to see how his future would progress. He would not be a bad husband, she found herself thinking. He is not an old bloke, he is talented, and his bloodline is pure. She didn't know if she would hold much sway over her parents when they made the decision of who she should marry when it came time, but Dominic would not be a terrible choice.

She was loath to admit, but not so talented with spells to be able to protect their space with a nonverbal. She gave her wand a wave, whispering "Cave Inimicum".

"Perhaps a bit strong for our purpose tonight, but I suppose that will do the trick," she said. She took a seat at the table, glancing at Dominic. "You would not think less of me if I took my sweater off? It's rather stuffy in here and I came straight for class without changing." It didn't seem proper for her to undress in front of him, whether it just be the top layer or not. Still, he was a close friend and she wasn't doing anything inappropriate. Merlin knew she had shown a little more back here with other boys.

"Strong is never an issue, Narcissa. The stronger, the better." He dropped down carelessly in one of the chairs, the wood creaking as he lent back, wand rolling across the table top as he dropped it.

His eyes flickered back to the blonde witch, the edges of his lips drawn up in a smirk. "Go ahead, I'll just advert my gaze if you like."

Which he did do, as he dropped his feet fully to the floor and sat upright, looking towards a towering stack of books that were coated with a fine layer of dust. Dominic was far from chivalrous, however sometimes he liked to pretend.

"What do you think of everything that's been happening, Narcissa?"

Narcissa could only smile and shake her head as she pulled the sweater over her head. She immediately felt better and went to work on rolling her sleeves. "Dom, you are such a gentleman," she said, giving the ok for him to look again. Now that she was feeling more comfortable, she pulled out a piece of parchment, something to either take notes or doodle on. She had a hard time concentrating without giving her hands something to do, a habit her mother had tried to break her of at an early age.

"I find it very interesting," she admitted. "Although I'm upset to not be in the loop. Especially when my hunch is telling me my sister is involved." She glanced at Dominic, knowing Bella wouldn't be very happy if her sister was speaking of such things in the school. "Of course, all we speak of tonight if between us, correct? While I do love my fellow housemates, I find that some information needs to stay between two people." She trusted Dominic, but you could never be sure of a person. The information they would be discussing tonight may not be true, but Narcissa had always been confident of her hunches.

He gave a snort and turned back to face her, smirk still in place, his hands going to rest atop the table, fingers lacing together. It was clear, that he was watching her out of pure interest, curiosity clear in his eyes and the way he tilted his head just slightly to the side.

"It will stay between us. This is a private matter," He said, raising his hand and gesturing towards the surrounding shelves and the invisible charms that they had both placed around the room.

"No one else will ever know we spoke about any of this."

Narcissa met his gaze, an eyebrow raised. She smiled at his agreement and nodded her head. She could only hope he would stay true to it. She leaned against the table, leaning towards him just slightly.

"So what do you know of this group so far?" she asked, curious to know what information he had already obtained. Hers was all on gut instincts, nothing official. "I want to know how that list came about or if there even is one. As far as I can say, no one I've spoken to has seen it, only heard of it." She usually didn't take to rumors so easily, but this one was enough to pique her interest. There had to be some truth behind it; the names she had heard were logical and she had no doubt that there was a group called the Death Eaters. The information she really wanted to know was their purpose and what they were going to do in the future.

Dominic leaned in as well, almost intent on the moment and the Witch both. This was something that had been impossible to pass up, and he could only hope that something came of it. He hated wasting his time.

"I know nothing solid, although I do have some guesses." Dominic said, leaning upright once more, contemplating what Narcissa had said. The list was something he had been wondering about for days, and still Dominic had not found a single shred to prove it existed.

Or where it was hidden.

"I've asked around, and no one has admitted to knowing anything too, although they could have been lying." He lifted his wand, and began to unconsciously tap it against the edge of the table, slight, white sparks shooting out of the end.

"I think Malfoy knows something, or at least...he's pretending that he does."

She wasn't sure if she enjoyed the way Dominic was looking at her. She liked to be looked at, but she felt like he was trying to see something deeper, something she wasn't comfortable in sharing. She blinked and looked away for a second, wanting to break the intensity of the stares.

"I'm beginning to think there is no list, although the supposed names on it are real as well as the name." It was possible. She didn't know who would start such a thing, but perhaps it was for publicity? "Maybe they wanted to be known, but to not have it become public. They wanted people to fear it before they are known. It seems like good timing with the recent attacks that have been reported."

She made a face when Dominic mentioned Lucius. While she would always come to care for him, she didn't want to think of him at the moment. He had hurt her and it wasn't fair to her. But she nodded her head, sure he was involved somehow.

"He's probably apart of this elusive group as well," she said. Her eyes moved back up to meet Dominic's.

"Have you heard of this new dark wizard?"

When Narcissa looked away, Dominic kept his eyes on her, smiling wide enough to slightly show his teeth. It seemed that he was making her squirm, and despite the seriousness of this meeting, a small part of him found some enjoyment out of that knowledge.

"I suppose you're right about that. I believe it is also a ploy to incite fear, the unknown often has that affect." It would make people wonder, guessing constantly and spinning tales and more wild rumors, in all likelihood.

"I thought as much as well. I believe he would be one of the people with the most information currently..." He trailed off, eyes having wandered away from her now snapped back to Narcissa, as he gave a slight nod, dark hair shifting with the action.

"I have. The Dark Lord. One might think he has a hand in with the Death Eaters."

"Oh, of that I can be certain," she said with a brief nod of her head. "But I would like to know if they were responsible for the recent attacks and what their creed actually is." Her doodles were becoming bigger, an abstract pattern as she thought about the group. "It seems that they hold the same beliefs that we do, on the purity of blood lineage," she said. "Of that I can commend. But do they believe to kill off every muggle born or halfblood to purify our society? I'm not quite sure I agree with that." She frowned, realizing that she may have sounded sympathetic to those below themselves.

"I believe our wizarding society needs to be open to those who are worthy. Those that are not should be put in their proper place. But then I find myself wondering, what place is that?" It was the most truthful she'd been with anyone and suddenly felt a little ashamed. Clearing her throat, she shifted in her chair, her doodles changing once again.

"I believe Bellatrix is apart of this group," she said. "And even though I am her sister, if she is sworn to secrecy she would not give up any information. I suppose Lucius is our best bet, although I feel the same will be for him."

Dominic's eyes had shifted from Narcissa's own gaze, down to the paper laid between them, which she continued to draw on, quill tip scratching quietly, a slight sound that filtered easily with her voice. It was absent minded wondering at her doodles that were in the back of his mind, the forefront crowded with thoughts, wondering and guesses at the group. At what Narcissa was saying.

It could have been betrayal to their ideals, to what they and their families believed in however he knew that he could not jump to any conclusion, not just yet.

After all, Dominic had agreed to hear her out. "I believe, the proper place is removal." Whether by death or other means, Dominic chose not to say just now. He did not wish to scare her off.

Shifting in place, he smiled a touch more brightly, a slight attempt to put her at ease. "I could not agree more. Going about getting information from Bellatrix seems more difficult then wrestling the Giant Squid..." He paused, stretching and leaning back in his chair.

"Malfoy's more...he seems to be pushing the matter that he has information, the overgrown peacock. I'm sure, if a certain amount of charm were applied, one could loosen his tongue only further."

Finally, Dominic's eyes met Narcissa's once again.

"It would be lovely to know if that groups creed does meet our own, after all."

She was grateful that Dominic didn't say anything to judge what she had said, but he seemed very sure of his stance of the situation. She thought about her own reasoning for a moment, wondering why extermination of the race just wouldn't be better. Could they not just be placed in their own world she thought to herself and cursed silently. She was soft. This was why she would never be able to do the things that Bellatrix could. But really, it was true. Why should she care about a group of people when they aren't bothering her? But that would be something she would keep to herself. She did not want to appear weak in front of her friend.

"Well I do not know how to get the information out of him," she said, shifting in her seat. "I never want to speak to that slimy git again. And I'm sure Alecto feels the same way. It would have to be someone close to him to find out. Or someone interested in joining the group?" Her eyes raised to meet his, almost in challenge.

"That might be true, Narcissa, however if it were to benefit our cause, wouldn't you be willing to speak to him just a touch?" Dominic's words were sly, his intent clear in the way he looked straight back at her, meeting the challenge in her lightly coloured eyes.

Shifting, he rested his elbow against the table top, bringing his wand higher up to brush along his lightly toned skin.

"Malfoy happens to have a certain dislike of me, which I share for him just as much. I am interested in joining this group, in their cause and what they stand for, but I think..." He paused, eyes drifting shut briefly, when they opened again, he had broken the stare, gaze shifting back to the books.

"It might seem suspicious to the prat. I could still try though, if that's what you desire, m'dear?"

Narcissa made a face and sighed, knowing she would speak to Lucius about this. He was still interested in playing games with her, so maybe she could do one more before finally calling it quits.

"I suppose I could make an exception and see if I can get any information out of him," she said, trying hard not to roll her eyes. "But you owe me! I'm finding that I'm disliking him as much as you are." It was easy to pretend to loathe him, to say all the negative feelings she felt for him. It helped to push the longing she still felt and the hurt he had inflicted on her. Really, it wasn't fair. She had been completely honest with him, why had he not returned the gesture?

"If I make no progress than you can step in and try," she said. "Otherwise we may need to look at other options." She tried to remember who else she had heard was on the list. "I believe Rodolphus Lestrange was on the list. I may be able to try with him, but I feel like I'd need to provide a strand of my sisters hair to get him to cooperate."

Dominic's smirk was full blown now, his facade of relaxation quickly tossed aside as he leaned in closer, hands pressing flat to the table. "You'll do a good job. You're a smart girl after all..."

Dominic let out a slow breath, dark hair falling across his forehead as he lent closer the wood surface, before jerking upright again. His smile had abruptly subdued to a ghost of what it once had been.

"Rodolphus would not surprise me, honestly. It seems we would have to give him something either way. He's a very demanding fellow..."

Rodolphus. That would mean it was outside of the school, that it was something more then a simple game.

"I'll tell you who I do not believe is on that list, Alecto. She seems to know nothing more then we do, although I can't be sure of that brother of hers'. He's been awfully quiet lately, hasn't he?"

Which was not completely unusual, however something simply felt off about it in Dominic's mind.

He reached one hand out towards her. "I'll owe you. Call the favor in whenever you like. But if you can get nothing from Malfoy, I'll definitely give it a go."

She raised an eyebrow at Dominic's sudden smile, laughing off his compliment. She was a smart girl, but only to those she trusted. She had an appearance to keep up after all. And it was better to take people by surprise than to flaunt all of your talents. Her mind was already working on plans to get Lucius to spill everything to her. She had her ways, but it didn't please her to think of her giving in to him. He would think he had won and that was something she did not want at the moment.

"I have noticed," she said. "I've been a little worried about him. Have you spoken to him?" She wouldn't have been surprised if Amycus had been apart of the group. "You know...he would be easier to get information from than Lucius." She glanced at Dominic. "Perhaps it's him we should be going to!" Still, the thought of having a favor from Dominic was appealing. She always liked cashing in on things she had done for others, especially when it seemed so open like what he was offering.

"I suppose I could try with Lucius and if that doesn't work, we could try Amycus?"

"Not much actually. It seems that some people have been strangely busy lately, Narcissa. " Of course, he was preoccupied with certain things as well, mostly Quidditch and catching up on essays and chasing certain tail.

"Do you really think so?" It was Lucius he had believed would be the weakest link of the supposed names on the list, but maybe....

Well, Narcissa was smart.

He gave a quick nod, raising one hand to brush his dark hair back. "Amycus! I never would have thought he might be. It's better then nothing though, and if Lucius turns out to be useless..." Amycus it would be.

Everyone was always busy. Whether it was homework, Quidditch, or whatever else they did, they were "busy". Narcissa never fell in that group as she didn't like being bothered by things all the time. She tried to get as much free time as she could and she credited that to her easy going nature.

Narcissa made a face and laughed. "I think we should try Amycus first. Always try with the easiest, right? If that fails then we can move on to the tougher of the two." Really, she was trying everything she could to avoid speaking to Lucius.

She glanced down at her watch, noticing that more time had passed than she had thought. "Well, at least we have some ideas and a place to start," she said. "Perhaps when we have more information, we could meet again?"

Dominic grinned, pushing his hands against the table and raising to his feet. Leisurely he stretched, just before dropping his arms down to his sides, and slide his wand back into his pocket.

"Trying Amycus works with me, Narcissa. In the mean time, I'll keep trying to gather information."

He leaned down, lifting his bag up by the strap, and snatched up his robe, which was carelessly tossed over his shoulder. Dominic held out one hand, offering to help Narcissa to her feet.

"Anything to see you once again, m'dear." He said, voice teasing.
