Who: Molly & Lily
What: Girl Time!
When: Backdated to Saturday night
Where: Their dorm
Rating: PG
Status: Incomplete

Lily felt bad. After her conversation with Molly, she began to realize how much time she had been spending with the boys and ignoring her girl friends. It seemed a little ridiculous that she and Molly had to figure out a time to chat rather than their usual bedside chats before they fell asleep. Lily had found herself sneaking into bed later than usual and her roommates had typically already fallen asleep. But that was going to change. She was going to get better on splitting her time equally between her friends, new and old.

Dinner had gone by strangely. She had sat with Molly, but kept looking over at the group of boys. Sirius had been acting weird again and she felt like James was still upset at her over something. She couldn't help but glance over at the Slytherin table to watch Severus, averting her eyes as soon as he looked up at her. She hadn't spoken to him in awhile and wondered if their friendly streak was going to be short lived. Yeah, a girl chat was definitely in order.

The girls walked back together, arm in arm to their dorm room. She didn't glance around the common room as they passed by, not wanting to get distracted. They headed up, giggling about various things here and there. It was easy, every day kind of conversation that served its purpose of creating an at ease atmosphere as they got to their room, Lily flopping on her bed. She rolled over, propping her head up in her hands.

"I'm sorry for not being around more often," she said, thinking to start out with the obvious. "I didn't mean to ignore you or spend most of my time with the boys." She made a face as she thought about it. The more she hung out with them, the more complicated things seemed to get. Life was simpler before all of this. She wasn't sure if it was based on recent current events or the people she had decided to spend most of her time with.

It was nice to spend time with Lily again. She had been seeing less and less of her friend lately, and the dorm seemed very lonely without her bubbling energy.

And quite frankly, she was worried. Lily was spending far too much time with those boys, and she didn't trust them. Remus and Peter, maybe, but James and Sirius were the biggest trouble makers at this school, and she didn't for one second believe that they had Lily's wellbeing in mind when they dragged her into all thier troubles. Add to that the fact that Sirius Black was a womanizer, a letch, and several other words she couldn't even utter in the safety of her own mind, Molly felt her concern was justified.

She flopped onto her own bed, facing her friend across the short space between.

"You certainly have taken a shine to them all of a sudden." She couldn't keep all of the dissaproval out of her voice.

Lily smiled, giving a half shrug. "I guess you're right," she said, a frown on her face. "I didn't mean to make you feel like you've been replaced or anything like that. I guess I just started to talking to them more and more over the journals and that lead to hanging out with them..." She let the sentence drift off, shrugging her shoulders again.

"Do you not like them?" It was always better to be blunt with things and she always valued Molly's views and advice. If she didn't like the boys, she would have a good reason. Maybe Lily would be able to give a little more insight. She had invited Molly out the other night to get to know the boys a little better, but she had a feeling that didn't go over quite as she had planned.

"They are a little...rough I suppose," she said truthfully. "But once you get to know them, there's actually something special there for all of them."

"Hmmm." Molly pursed her lips. "I'm sure there's something about them that's redeeming."

Lily couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "I think you'd actually get along with them pretty well Molly," she said. "Sirius and James both have a soft spot and can be rather charming. But they are as rambunctious as they seem in public. I'm not sure if you would like that." Molly was a very fun person, but she definitely had a different set of morals than the two Gryffindor boys.

"I think you'd get on with Peter and Remus a little more. You should hang out with us some more! Just to get a sense of them? Please?" She turned over in the bed and gave her friend a little pouty face.

Molly sighed, a little dramatically.

"I'll give them a chance. For you. But don't expect me to start playing nice with Sirius Black." She wrinkled her nose. "Peter is a sweet boy though. I've been talking to him a lot recently. He seems very lonely for a boy who supposedly has three best friends.

Lily smiled and reached out to take her friends hand. "Thanks Molly," she said. "Sirius is actually really nice too. You just have to get him in the right situation." She gave her hand a squeeze, before dropping it. She sighed as well, turning so her feet were up on the wall.

"I've been wondering if I've been spending too much time with them though," she said, almost echoing her exact thoughts from earlier. "I mean, with James. I don't want to feel like I'm leading him on, but I wonder if we're going a bit fast with things."

"Hmm." Molly nodded. She'd been thinking the exact same thing. "It has all be rather sudden. I mean, you went from hating the sight of him to spending all your time together." She gave Lily a hesitant look. "Do you think, maybe, that you might not be better off being friends with him first?"

It was almost what Lily had been thinking about earlier. This was why she and Molly clicked so well; they had this kind of understanding that didn't always need to be spoken out loud. And when it did...well, it obviously clicked.

"Maybe," she said, nodding her head slowly. "It's strange. Sirius and I just started talking about it one day. I was joking, but Sirius got all...well, serious. And he just asked me to keep an open mind about James and I thought, what the heck? So I was open. And while he can be quite an ass, he's also very sweet and caring and..." She looked over at her friend, blushing a little. "There's just more to him than I had initially given him credit for."

"That's all well and good Lily. And I'm glad you're giving him a chance, really I am. But you can't go from enemies to lovers in one night. There has to be a middle ground here!"

She hoped she wasn't being too harsh. She knew what it was like to be infatuated with a boy. But this wasn't like her and Arthur. They were clearly meant to be, and besides, they'd been friends for years first.

"I'm not saying you need to cut him out, or anything. Maybe just slow it down a little."

Part of her was upset that Molly would say that, but the other part, the more logical, knew she was right. Things had gone a little too fast and Lily had just accepted it. Molly was there to make sure it didn't just fly off to crash and burn later. While it may not have been what she wanted to hear right away, she knew it would be good in the long run.

"I know," she said, nodding her head and picking something from underneath her nails. "I guess it's just the cold splash of reality you know? It was nice, but in the long run, it'll probably be better." She glanced over at Molly and smiled. "Thanks though," she said. "I know you're just saying this because you care. And this is a pretty strange circumstance."

Molly sat up and walked over to Lily's bed, putting her arm around her friend.

"I just don't want to see you get hurt, that's all. And you don't know these boys well enough yet. Give it time Lily. Maybe you'll decide that he is the one for you, and if you do I'll support you."

Lily leaned into her friend, happy for her presence. Molly was always practical and reasonable. Even if it wasn't what Lily wanted to hear, she was there to reassure and comfort. "I know," she said, just the slightest pout in her voice.

"And you're right. If it's meant to be, then it'll happen. He wouldn't be upset over this, right? He would understand." But even as she said the words, she knew it wouldn't be quite like that. He had liked her for awhile (from what Sirius said), so now that she seemed to be with him, it would just seem like a brush off if she were to say anything. But Molly brought up some good points and she had to be rational about this, not just a silly school girl.

"Let's just hope things will go alright."

"Of course they will dear. Now come on, no more moping! Let's, I don't know, paint our nails and listen to the Witching Hour on the wireless."

She stood and went rummaging in her trunk for her nail varnish. It would do Lily good to get her mind off these things.

Lily couldn't help but laugh as Molly rolled off the bed to get all the girly things she loved to do. It usually wasn't Lily's cup of tea, but it sounded nice for tonight. She rolled over on her stomach and held her hands out, looking at her nails.

"What color do you think?" she asked. "Maybe a bright red? Or something darker?" Darker sounded good. She could go with a little dark right now.

"I've been thinking of dying my hair too," she said. She actually hadn't really, but the idea suddenly sounded good. "What do you think?"
