Lily wanted to stop James, to explain, but now wasn't the time. She had told him she would talk to him about everything later and she would. Well, as much as she could. She watched him walk away before turning her attention back to Severus. His greeting was less than warm, but that was a given.
She didn't like Severus' choice of date for the dance, but she was sure that he could say the same for hers...which he did. She shifted her feet, unsure how to say. She didn't want to come right out and defend James after having Severus' see them together, but she couldn't just let him talk about James' like that.
"His hands weren't all over me," she said, looking down at her shoes then back up at him. "Besides what would you know? Were you paying me more mind than your date? No wonder Narcissa hates me so." Well, that probably wasn't the real reason. She looked at Severus and gave a him a smile, hoping to prod one out of him.
