Severus was so close to turning and heading the other way. James Potter hovering too close to Lily was not his idea of a great start to the morning.
"Hardly," he quipped, eyes narrowing as he watched her try to draw him into a conversation. It shouldn't bother him so much, really; he had lost her once, and he could probably stomach doing it again if he needed to but... he had thought that they might be coming to understand one another again, especially after she had sent him that Valentine's Day... well what was it, a gift, a reminder, something else entirely? He hated feeling like he was standing on uneven ground with Lily Evans.
"I saw that you were having a positively marvellous time. Tell me, how does it feel having a dunderhead's fumbling hands all over you?" He couldn't help the severe lack of contrition that came out in his voice. It didn't take much to revert.
