James followed along wordlessly after the small uneasiness that had occurred. He really didn't want to start a row, not when things had been going well. Maybe getting some food might get their minds off of it. He could hope, anyway, as he watched the little elves flitting around, doing their work and gathering together what smelled like a fabulous meal. This scene felt entirely too familiar. His mind wandered to just a few days prior when he and Sirius had gotten food for Moony the morning before his transformation. His brows slowly lowered the more he thought about it, not wanting to think about Sirius right now. Well, at least not actively.
Sitting down next to her loosened him up a little bit as he watched their intertwined hands. It was a still a wonder to him that they were here together, but he wasn't about to spoil it with any commentary on the matter. Instead, he put on a cheerful expression and started on a completely different angle.
"D'you reckon you'll be going to your afternoon classes? Seems like a waste if you ask me." Then again, classes were never of much importance to James; he only went so that he could graduate with decent marks, and perhaps even pursue some interesting career after school. Smirking to himself at the thought, he reminded himself of his family's plentiful Gringotts vault, and that he didn't actually need to work.
"All done! I is hopin' it's good Misses!" The squeaky voice broke him out of his thoughts and he looked at the little elf who'd offered over a massive plate filled with food. Standing up, he regretfully broke contact with Lily and took over the food dish, absently tossing a grunted thanks at the elf. He'd grown up around them and didn't give them much thought.
Pulling out his wand while he precariously balanced the platter, he muttered a shrinking charm atop a shield charm that would keep the heat in and the food from tumbling out of his pocket. Once he'd stuffed the now manageable parcel into his trousers, he turned back to Lily and once again offered his hand.
"Shall we deliver the goods?" he enquired with a grin, pulling her toward the kitchen exit along with him.
