It tore him apart that Sirius was so devastated. What had happened? Had Lucius hurt him? Remus didn't understand where all of this was coming from. He knew that being drunk could sometimes make a person overly emotional, but this was too much. Surely the alcohol wasn't still in his system by now. A hang over was one thing, but this was just too much.
When Sirius spoke, Remus looked up at him and blinked a couple of times. How was he supposed to answer that? If he was honest, he'd tell him that yes, he did hurt him. He hurt him worse than he'd ever hurt him before, even though Remus knew he had no right to feel that way. Sirius didn't owe him his loyalty. So how could he tell him? It didn't seem like a good idea to tell him the truth when he was so clearly shaken up.
"Don't worry about me," he said softly, and lightly nuzzled his hair. "You need your rest." He gently pulled Sirius back with him, to lay down at his side.
