James followed along quietly, letting his mind wander to the hand that he held. He didn't want to think about anything else while he had the chance to be alone with Lily. It was all still so new to be able to hold her hand and walk with her, be in her presence in general really, without them getting into a verbal sparring match.
Lily pulled him away from his thoughts with her question and he finally noticed how close to the dungeons they were getting. Furrowing his brows, he let himself reveal his opinions on the matter in a serious voice, "I don't think it would've been that bad." Stubbornly, he looked at her and then sighed, shaking his head when he realised that he needed to change his tactics if he didn't want to make her mad at him. Not yet, not after what they'd gone through together.
"Sorry, it's just a really bad blow, y'know? Knowing that my best mate did that to Moony. Like he didn't care about how he'd feel afterward. But I have to admit that the look in Sirius's eyes... I dunno, something didn't feel right." He felt a slight shiver go down his spine as he let his mind wander on that point. Something had happened, he just didn't have a clue what, and not for the first time, he cursed himself for not having actually seen the events as they panned out.
