Severus Snape is not amused ([info]severusnape) wrote in [info]the_recruitment,
ENTRY WAY OUTSIDE OF THE GREAT HALL
The dreaded day had arrived and it couldn't have been more beautiful outside. Severus Snape did not enjoy balls, he did not enjoy parading in front of dozens of people, and he did not wish to look like a fool who was dressed as a fancy peacock to be put on display. Alas, he had already asked Narcissa to accompany him, and after such a feeling of disappointment that he got from her as she wrote to him in their journals, he simply couldn't let her down. It was all Lucius's fault; the way he strung people along and let them dangle from a fine line was heartless and selfish, but leave it to Severus to be the one to pick up the pieces. He might be described as a good friend if he wasn't so reticent about the entire affair.

The morning walk had done him a bit of good so that he was in better sorts when he returned to the common room that afternoon. Ever the dutiful student, he also managed to get in a bit of studying, despite morning classes being cancelled the next day. With a self-sacrificing sigh, he neatly stacked away his schoolwork while starting to rummage for a decent outfit. Luckily he'd had his better attire reserved for such occasions. The trousers were a simple black to match. It was a hand-me-down, but at least this set of clothing didn't smell of muggle moth balls nor did it sag on him. All in all, as he gazed in the mirror later that afternoon, he had to admit that he looked decent. Touching up his limp hair hadn't done any good; it possessed far too oily a texture to ever behave, so he simply gave up after the first attempt.

He'd met Narcissa in the common room and was surprised by her stunning looks; then again, it was nothing out of the ordinary for her to look lovely. Severus felt his spirits rise if only a fraction at how beautiful she looked. For once, he would be able to arrive in some semblance of style with Narcissa and perhaps he might be left alone for the evening. "You look quite nice, yourself," he'd replied in a fairly light tone. Like a proper gentleman, he offered his arm and escorted her down to the entryway before the Great Hall. It was only at the large doors that he abruptly stopped and passed an anxious look at Narcissa.

"Tell me again why I said that I would be going to this horrible dance?"
