Who: James & Anonymous [zomg Lily]
What: James meets the anonymous Slytherin-hater from this owl
Where: Quidditch Pitch
When: 1st April, night-time.
Status: Incomplete
Rating: Lemme get back to you on that. ;]

It didn't take too long for James to get on the owl that he'd received earlier that evening. He breezed through dinner with his mates giving him the strangest looks as his fork shovelled food faster into his mouth than usual. Something about that owl was unusual, something that he couldn't quite place luring him to the Pitch. It might've been a trap set by one of the dirty Slytherins, but he was going prepared. James couldn't rightly resist meeting someone who wanted to bash on the Slytherins' crooked win as much as he, though. Then again, he could've been projecting his scathing hatred on the owl, but it didn't matter. Obviously this person was either a snake in disguise, or a bona fide Slytherin-hater. Either way, he would soon find out.

His beloved invisibility cloak was tucked safely away in his Muggle jeans pocket and he had his wand pinned against his side under his shirt as he stood up from the dinner table and waved a hasty good-bye to the other Marauders. If he'd bothered to look around the Gryffindor table, he might've noticed if someone else were equally rushing through a meal, or perhaps even missing. Alas, James was horribly daft when he wanted to be.

The cool night breeze ran through his tousled hair and made it look all the more garish. Messy was a good look for James Potter, all the same. He let the winds run their course over his face for a few blissful minutes before he walked halfway to the Pitch. The cloak was pulled out and thrown over his head, immediately enveloping him in the night and making him one with the air around him. He lightly jogged the rest of the way, wary for any Slytherin traps along the path or surrounding the area. He wasn't sure exactly where to go, so he stuck to the sides of the stands, letting his head peek out from the cloak so that his mystery correspondent would see him if they were truly looking.

Lily had been a little nervous during the dinner, sneaking glances at James every now and then. She had gone with Peter's idea, giving James a little white lie to get him out and away from everyone else. She needed to talk to him, to get down to the bottom of everything. He had been by her side every moment while she was in the hospital wing, but then disappeared after that. And then he had left that note in her journal...I love you, you know.

She had seen him practically run out of the Great Hall and shortly excused herself to follow. She had to slow her steps on the way to the Pitch, telling herself to remain calm and to just be natural. This was James. Silly, irrational, sweet James. She needed to take Peter's advice again and just be honest with James. And herself. While everything had been rushed and fast, the incidents that lead up to the present only seemed natural for her to fall for James. He had proved his devotion to her why couldn't she just be honest for him?

She arrived to the pitch shortly after James, but upon initial inspection, she couldn't see him. She glanced around quickly before wondering if she had gotten there before him. Rubbing her arms, she sat on one of the field benches, trying to gather her courage again. Just be honest. If he truly loves you, he'll understand and listen. She glanced around the pitch again, this time a movement in the stands catching her eyes. She squinted and looked up before gasping.

"James?" Her voice was almost a scream, his head appearing to be floating in the air. Was she just imagining things now?

At the sound of his name, his head whipped around and he searched the area. The red was pretty bloody hard to miss, so he sucked in a breath and stood stock still. No chance to avoid the meeting now. While he hadn't been avoiding Lily per se, he didn't know what he could possibly say to her now that he'd confessed blatantly in their journal conversation, so he decided to give her time to mull it over. At least that's what he said to convince himself.

Did she send me that owl? he wondered, thinking that perhaps he'd underestimated her cunning.

"Oi, it's me!" he finally called back, proud of himself for not letting his voice waver. He still stood in his spot, fidgeting a bit as he took off the cloak and tucked it back into his pocket. He needed this moment to decide what he would say to her.

Sorry, I was going mental. I mean, you were hurt; I wanted you to feel better. Er, Lily, you're so gorgeous that I couldn't help myself; you understand, I'm sure? Each one of those options sounded ridiculous. He'd never been caught so off-guard before. Where was the normally suave and charming James Potter? His hand unconsciously went up to his hair and tugged on the strands, tousling them in his usual fashion without even realising it.

Taking a few deep breaths, he finally felt his feet move. They brought him closer to Lily to meet her halfway. He put on his best face and offered her a self-confident smile, trying not to let her see what he was really thinking. "All right there? Fancied a stroll on the Pitch, did you?"
