What: During their second flying lesson, Reg & Cissa find an injured animal....

Regulus had been more than excited, and perhaps even a little smug, about his birthday gift for his favorite cousin. It was an excellent choice in broom, after all, and if she wanted to really enjoy flying, she might as well have her own.

The morning had been a bit overcast, but had fortunately cleared up and was a bit cheerier by the time he and Narcissa met by the broom shed. After the initial getting acquainted with her broom, they had set off on a slow but relaxing lap around the school grounds.

Once they were in the swing of things, Regulus cleared his throat. He'd noticed a shiny piece of jewelry on an important finger of his cousin's, but hadn't brought it up yet. Now seemed like a good time to test her concentration skills, as she seemed more relaxed about her flight.

"So," he began with an easy grin. "I spy with my little eye, something shiny and round."

Narcissa had been pleasantly surprised by Regulus gift, something hard to do for her. She was usually a strictly jewelry girl, but his had been thoughtful and unique. She planned to actually keep up with her flying practice and was happy to meet up with Regulus again. She had her broom in her hand, feeling confident as she strode out to the pitch. She was beginning to feel more and more like a Quidditch player. Well, at least that's what she told herself, even though she was only on her second flying lesson and had never tried doing anything Quidditch related.

The first few laps were a little shakier as Narcissa hadn't gone out to fly around since her first lesson with Regulus. But she found herself taking to it a lot faster and she began to try weaving around Regulus, laughing and having a good time. She had such a cold exterior she liked to keep up around other people that Regulus was one of the only people she could have fun with.

They had been flying side by side when she heard his statement. She hadn't kept her ring a secret, wearing it on her ring finger, but she hadn't told anyone about it either. Regulus was actually the first one to notice it and she smiled. "You can't tell anyone," she said. "It's just a fashion ring." She looked down at it, smiling and thinking back to her magical night at the ball.

	"A fashion ring?" he chuckled a bit. "You want to tell me exactly what sort of fashion ring that is?" It made him feel good to see her relax and fly more freely as they went. She really did take to flying much easier than he could have hope. Of course, Blacks tended to be talented at just about everything, so it wasn't that big of a surprise. She grinned, giving a small shrug. "Do you need me to say it out loud? It seems you may already know." She blushed slightly, but was sure she could have hid that for the fact of the cold wind rushing by them as they flew. "It's a secret right now," she said. "No one else knows or has even noticed. You've been the only one."

Their flying slowed down a bit and she tightened her ponytail a little more. She was really getting the hang of things by being able to do that.

	Regulus laughed, flying a circle around her. She really was relaxed, and that ring certainly had her radiating happiness. It was brilliant, his cousin really shined when she smiled. Narcissa couldn't help but laugh again, shaking her head a little. It was hard for her to keep it secret, especially from her family. She knew Bella wouldn't be too thrilled by the news, but Regulus would at least be happy for her.

She bit her lip as she debated about telling him. He was rather discreet, never spreading the gossip that seemed to seep through the walls of Hogwarts. She was sure there would be a rumor floating around soon enough and it would be better that he heard it from her.

"I'm engaged," she finally said, flying her broom around to face him. "To Lucius." She didn't know if Regulus had a problem with Lucius as her other friends seemed to be. She prayed she could at least find a friend in Regulus.

	"Lucius," Regulus repeated. He had sort of known but hadn't been sure. Lucius was a decent man, he only worried that he wouldn't be good enough for Narcissa. But, he couldn't deny the joy the girl was radiating at the moment. "Congratulations," he said with another grin. He was glad he'd made her say it out loud. She couldn't judge by the way her cousin said his name how he felt about the match. At least he didn't have a look of disgust on his face. That was the one good thing she could be thankful for when she told Amycus and Dominic that she was back with him; she didn't have to see their physical reactions to it. Probably for the best as she would have tried to hex them.

"Thanks," she said, smiling again. "We're both very happy and excited! But it's not public or official yet. Since he has just announced his eligibility it didn't seem proper to announce it the next day. Hopefully soon, but not yet." It was hard for her to say, especially since she wanted to show off her ring to everyone, to tell them that he had proposed and it wasn't arranged. But she had to bow to his wishes and she would begin her job as an obedient wife now.

It relieved him to hear that they were both happy and excited. Regulus's only worry was that Narcissa had enveloped herself so much in her excitement, that she was forgetting the way Lucius had treated her in the past, around the time of the Valentine's dance.

"I can understand that," he said when they spoke of keeping the engagement a secret. "When do you think the wedding will be?" He wondered if Narcissa would be returning to school engaged or married.
