Amycus felt a momentary flicker of disbelief at Peter's comment about who had taught him. He'd always assumed that he and Alecto were the only ones whose grandparents had been more involved in their education than their parents. "All of the spells I knew before coming here I learned from Grandfather," he admitted. It was no secret that Father had been away for most of his life and he'd been raised by his grandparents. "Some of them were probably rather advanced," he said, managing to inject a note of embarrassment into his voice. "I managed to learn some on my own though in an effort to please him," he added. Pleasing Grandfather hadn't been even a remote consideration in his wanting to learn any of the Dark Arts.
"That was probably a smart move. No sense in your friends getting mad at you on my account," he said, a grudging amount of respect in his voice. He hadn't expected Peter to think far enough ahead to worry about what his friends might think.
