Remus was a little taken back when he found the parchment with directions on it. What was this all about? He'd received several kind words and gifts for his birthday, but this was very different than any of them. It seemed he was going to be taking on a treasure hunt. Being called a 'sexy beast' made his cheeks flare red. Was that really necessary? He was fairly certain Sirius was behind this, but until he found him he couldn't be sure.

He left the Gryffindor dorms and walked down into the common room, as he looked for Nearly Headless Nick. After stepping through the portrait hole and into the hall, he looked around, hoping to find him lurking nearby. "Sir Nicholas?" He called out, hoping the ghost would hear him.

Sir Nicholas floated out of a wall and looked down on Mr. Lupin with a sort of dignified affection.

"Ah, Master Lupin. I was told to expect you. Come with me."

He began floating down the hall, leading Remus through various passages and panels, till they came to a small, unoccupied room. There was nothing in it but a table with a piece of parchment in the middle.

"Solve the puzzle" Sir Nick intoned, "And the secret door will open."

Place letters into the grid such that every row, column, and 2x2 block has letters (in any order) that form a common word.
Each letter is only used once, and no letter is repeated in the rows/cols/blocks.
Letters allowed: S O N A T A.

Word puzzles. Remus smirked a little. He did those for fun. The others gave him grief for it, but clearly it was going to work in his favor today. He thanked Sir Nicholas, then looked down at the puzzle. A glance at the directions told him what he needed to accomplish. Remus picked up a quill and began to script letters in their appropriate place. It didn't take him long at all.

Once he'd completed the puzzle, he set the quill down and waited for the 'secret door' to open and reveal to him where he was heading to next. This was all exciting, and surprising. He couldn't imagine anyone going to such lengths just for his birthday. It made him feel special.

As Remus put his quill down the parchment began to shine and a door in the wall swung open on silent hinges.

"Follow the trail to the very end, and I think you'll find a special friend." Sir Nick said, a smile hidden somewhere in his voice.

From down the hallway came the sound of weeping and wailing. Sir Nick gave Remus a wink, then floated out the door.

His eyebrows lifted as Remus listened to Nearly Headless Nick's instructions. It was quite odd, especially when he heard weeping and wailing just after. He wasn't sure if he wanted to find out where that was coming from, but he did want to find his special friend.

After passing a hand through his hair and straightening his shirt, Remus started his walk down the hallway. The sounds grew louder the further he moved through the tunnel, but he tried not to let it make him feel nervous.

The tunnel led to a dark, dank restroom. They walls were covered in mold and toilet was truly a disgrace. The sound of wailing horribly loud, before suddenly cutting off. There was silence three whole seconds, before a forlorn voice muttered.

"Well, aren't you even going to say hello?"

The ghost of Moan Myrtle rose out of the filthy toilet and stared at Remus through her thick glasses.

It was as he'd feared. A dingy old bathroom with Moaning Myrtle flying about, moaning and whining about Merlin knew what. Remus had only had a couple of run ins with her over the years, since he never really hung around her bathroom.

"Hello, Myrtle," he said politely. Even though he was a little miffed that he'd been led to that place, he couldn't do anything about it now except grin and try to bear it. "How are you?"

"Now he asks!" Myrtle groaned dramatically! "What should I expect for living boys. You're all the same!" She wiped her eyes and wailed a little more. "Oh, right, I'm supposed to take you somewhere. not that I should, mind you. But he asked me so nicely..." Her eyes got all dreamy for a second, before she began to cry again. "And he hadn't come to see me in AGES!"

She continued sobbing loudly as she flew straight through a wall, then popped her head back in.

"Well, are you coming? It's not really a wall, it's just a hole pretending."

She continued flying all the way down a small, oddly smelling tunnel that led out onto the grounds near Hagrids hut. She floated over to a large, hollow tree, and pointed.

"It's in there."

Remus put up with Myrtle's rant and yelling, picking out the important bits to figure out what he was supposed to do next. Was she talking about Sirius? Given the way her expression turned to one about to swoon and one that was heartbroken, he could only assume so.

He followed Myrtle, though he couldn't tell if that was to her dismay or her delight, outside all the wy down past Hagrid's hut. When she pointed to a tree, Remus looked up at her. "Are you sure, Myrtle? It's a tree." He crept closer to it, and looked inside.

Myrtle nodded forlornly.

"Yes, he said it would be tacked up in the back."

There, hanging on the far side of the hollow, was this map.

Upon looking inside, Remus found a sketched out map of the grounds. He looked it over, and now he could see that his next destination was the Quidditch pitch. He was being taken on a wild goose chase, and the most ironic part of it all was that he had no idea what was waiting for him at the end.

"Thank you for your help, Myrtle. Have a good night," he said, and offered her a smile though he knew she'd probably yell something at him as he walked off. Remus crept quietly across the grounds, being mindful of Filch as the map instructed, until he reached the pitch. He walked out to the center, knelt down, and began to dig.

Exactly six inches down there was a small, plain wooden box. Inside the box was a tiny golden key, and this poem written on a scrap of parchment.

You already hold the key to my heart
But now you hold the key that will start
The rest of your journey, so listen well
This key responds to a magic spell
A spell that opens a one eyed old witch
And leads us to candy......something that rhymes with witch!!
The key will then point you just the right way
To enjoy the rest of your magical day.
