It was right after the Quidditch match, and instead of getting ready to go out into Hogsmeade, Lucius had sent notice to Alecto and Amycus via his well-paid first year messenger, the boy breathlessly tracking them down and telling them that the Head Boy wanted to see them. When he returned with confirmation of the delivery, Lucius was amused to see how flustered he looked. He was certainly glad that he didn't need to go trudging about the castle hunting the twins down. He was tired enough after the banter with Alecto in his journal, but he set that aside and straightened his freshly washed hair in his morror, tugging on his crisp robe collar and smoothing out any perceivable wrinkles.
As he gazed at himself, he mused about the upcoming conversation. If she would not be receptive, he prepared himself with a well-learned Obliviate, his wand conveniently tucked against his hip in relative safety. The Dark Lord had been pleased with his suggestion, and Lucius was ever prepared to make amends for being outspoken what seemed so long ago now. He didn't need to be in Voldemort's bad sights during this assignment. It was of the utmost importance that he succeed no matter what he had to do. With a smirk, he thought to Narcissa and her reaction to him lately. Even there, he would be sure to win. The little niggling voice that spoke of deeper, more sentimental things was tucked safely at the back of his mind, always silenced before the voice got too loud. He didn't need to think about anything aside from work; even the Dark Lord had noticed his distraction. Lucius reminded himself to strengthen his Occlumency at the nearest opportunity.
For now, he stood from the mirror and headed to his desk, preparing a progress report for his Master. He would wait as patiently as needed for his summoned party to arrive.
