Lily was done with his excuses and she just wanted him to hear her out. She grabbed his wrist, pulling him back to face him. "No, we need to talk James," she said, her eyes pleading with him. It was almost too hard to look into his eyes and see the pain that was so obvious. It hurt even more knowing that she was the reason he was feeling this way. She took a deep breath and let go, her eyes downcast.
"Please James, won't you at least listen? If you're still upset with me after we talk, then you can walk away and I'll never bother you again. You can choose to speak to me when you want." She didn't like the idea of that either and cursed herself for even starting this in the first place.
"Please, just a few minutes. We could take a walk around the lake." She glanced out of the courtyard, wanting to talk with him in private. She didn't like being in an area where others could overhear and whisper about it later.
