Who: Jack and Ted, Also open to peoples reactions if they are in the dining hall. When: During dinner, Where: In the dining room of the Salisbury Why: Jack stops an assassination attempt on Ted. Rated: Pg-13
As Jack Frye saw it, it wasn’t him that had saved Ted Vasiliev’s life. It was Rachel.
He hadn’t been paying attention to what was going on. He hadn’t seen Ted come in. He wasn’t listening to what anyone was saying. Jack had been absently forking the food type stuff deposited on his plate and day dreaming about the things he’d lost. The people he missed.
That’s when he saw her out of the corner of his eye. He hadn’t just imagined it. She was there, he would have sworn on his life that he’d seen her smiling face in the crowd. There was no mistaking the sunshine she gave off. You’d have to be blind not to notice that smile.
It was the only reason he had noticed Carl Spragg taking out his gun. It was because Rachel’s outline faded and what was left behind was Carl’s angry face, his mouth melted into a scowl.
At first he had thought Carl was aiming at him. After all, after he’d knocked the man unconscious in order to get Wisniewski and his dog back to the Salisbury, he’d not “paid for it” as Carl had threatened he would. In fact, Carl had been demoted; penalized himself, for over reacting. His fears were deemed a detriment to the patrolling team and he was stripped of his title and placed on garbage duty.
Carl had not been pleased but his loyalty had been taken in account and he had taken the demotion without much resistance. Despite Carl’s stupidity he was smart enough to keep his mouth shut this time and although his revenge should be directed at Jack, it seemed that he blamed Ted for the humiliating punishment.
Jack looked back over his shoulder and realized that Ted was in the direct line of fire. He immediately took his gun out of its holster and reacted to the threat by taking a breath, taking aim and shooting Carl’s arm. The bullet hit the bone splintering it like wood and the arm slackened like a rope and then went limp. It bent in the middle like over cooked spaghetti. This effectively made Carl drop his weapon and alerted Ted’s men that an immediate threat was happening in plain site of the whole compound.
Everything slowed down.
They rushed Carl first and then Jack was second. Bodies huddled around the rancher and he was tackled to the floor. His temples pounded as the back of his head bounced off the floor. He did not resist. He lay there motionless while the chaos surrounding him buzzed angrily like a disturbed hive of bees.
In the distance he could hear Carl shouting in pain and then an elbow came down sharply in Jack’s face and he went out.
