Adrian groaned. "We should stop talking about chocolate," he muttered, ignoring the immediate craving he'd gotten for Chocolate Silk pie. He really was going to gain all kinds of weight by being here or become diabetic. One of the two, neither of which were all that appealing to him. It most certainly didn't help that it was damn near impossible to say no to either Emma or Mrs. Fields. Emma was tiny and adorable, while Mrs. Fields never gave you the opportunity to say no. The moment you opened your mouth, she'd shove whatever food she was pushing on you right in. It was best just to agree and make them happy.
He really had no right to be as comfortable as he was right then with her head on his chest and her leg thrown over his. Her presence at his side was more than welcomed and any tension that may have been lingering in his muscles happily drained away. It had been a long week, but this made up for a lot of it and he was beyond grateful for her presence. He didn't know what he would ultimately want from this, but he was content to simply enjoy what they had right now. That was enough.
He shrugged at the mention of his father. The man was dead and still controlling Adrian's actions. It was frustrating, particularly since Adrian knew that the man had thought this prior to his death. He had sought to put Adrian in this position. Bell was content in her current life and had he simply left matters alone, nothing would have changed and no one would have known about it. It was not simply this that his Father had failed in, but there was little to be done about it. Adrian had not done enough when the man was alive to change his opinions and now that he was dead there was no point in hoping for another outcome.
He smiled lightly at the invitation, taking a moment to brush a light kiss to her lips. "You can be assured that I will abuse that right every chance I get," especially with Mrs. Fields offering up baked goods and Merlin knew what else. "Mrs. Fields," he sighed, relaxing back into the pillow as his fingers brushed lazy patterns over Emma's back. "Woman after my own heart."
