Katie knew that this moment was a crossroads for them. Her heart was beating rapidly and that horrible cement of dread was weighing down her stomach. She could feel the pressure behind her eyes threatening to break and she didn't know how to control it. Instead, she watched him pace, listening to his words. This was beyond heartbreaking. They'd ruined more than just their friendship. She'd broken his trust in her and he had crushed her heart. This was beyond a disaster.
"I didn't go after him just to hurt you, Oliver," she sighed, sadness and pain emanating off her. "I was drunk. Beyond drunk and it just... It happened. I just wanted to escape the misery I'd felt all week. And yeah, part of me wanted you to hurt as much I was and that was wrong and I regret feeling that way." She worried her lower lip, feeling defeated and alone.
She ran a hand through her damp hair and shrugged. "I just thought that if we ever crossed that line... It'd be different. I'd be different. I'd mean more. I should've given you more time but I was angry and you know me... Better than anyone."
Sighing, Katie let out a shaky breath and admitted something she thought she'd keep to herself til she died. "I've loved you for a long time... But I think you need to figure out what you want from me. Because we've changed the game. Both of us."
