It was always dangerous, coming to the Ministry, because Seamus was rather distinctly aware that he might run into Susan at any moment. She worked more than anyone he knew and had recently become more important in the grand scheme of the wizarding world. Nevertheless, his cousin Fergus was a respectable adult with a respectable job, as the voice in his head - which sounded frighteningly like his mother - reminded. Nevertheless, a lifelong spirit of competition between the boys had softened into a genuine regard for one another. They'd had lunch in Diagon Alley, then gone back to Fergus' office to chat for a while. Seamus was headed back to Hogsmeade to finish off the rest of his free hours with a nap or a little work around the farm. He really needed to get the house liveable. On the other hand, the weather was fine and he hadn't been out on the bike lately.
He stepped onto the nearest lift with a faint smile on his face, nodding politely at the other wizards and witches present but not paying close attention to any one person.
As the car moved upwards, it stopped every now and again to let this one or that one off. Seamus stood with his hands in his pockets, already feeling the wind rushing through his hair as he tore across the muggle countryside. In all honesty, he longed to take the bike to America, where there were endless stretches of road to explore as he pleased. Moments later, Seamus was jerked from his pleasant thoughts as the lift shuddered unnaturally, falling what felt like half a story before screeching to a halt. He realized he was gripping the handholds like they were a lifeline. His heart was racing, muscles tense. That wasn't supposed to happen, was it?
"Bleedin' Christ," he mumbled, turning to see if anyone else was there. Red hair and a familiar face greeted him. Damn. "Susan?"
