Her eyes followed his hands. No. It couldn't be. Susan felt her heart pause for a moment before beating at a pace she'd never experienced before. Seamus had kept that silly little gift from all those years ago and even more he was still wearing it around his neck. Susan swallowed quickly and looked away from him sharply, her eyes focusing on the lift doors.
This whole time she'd thought he hated her. Part of her still assumed he did. How could he not after saying such awful things to her and then vanishing from her life for two years?
"We'll be fine," she said in a flat voice. It was clear he didn't want to be around her and even though she shouldn't have been surprised, Susan felt an ache deep in her chest. She blinked a few times, not wanting to show a moment of weakness to Seamus. She couldn't. She couldn't let him know how hard it had been for her since he left. It'd been years and she still missed what they had. But the memory of the end is what hung over her. Seamus had to run to another country to get away from her and that stung more than any hex ever could. "You'll be away from me again soon enough. Don't worry."
