Katherine was a selfish creature. She came and went as she pleased without regard to anyone else's feelings. It was... eye opening, to say the least. Rolf wasn't that different from her. He'd decided early on that he never wanted kids. He couldn't. Not with his lifestyle. Part of him respected his mother in the sense that he knew she'd have been a terrible mum. She'd left him with a wonderful father and amazing grandparents. Sighing, he watched his mother and Marietta interact, interest clear on the older woman's face.
Katherine glanced at her son, surprised evident when the little redhead started spouting off pureblood princess nonsense. "A lovely region," she said, attention shifting back to Marietta. She'd have never pegged her son to go for this type. Never. "It's quite... colorful. I prefer Tuscany." She really had little interest in this redhead and her dislike of the girl wasn't evident but there was a definite air of disinterest. Katherine didn't want her son in this life. He was too good for it. Smart, handsome, successful... no. She would prefer he remain safely outside of the lying social circles that was Society.
"It was wonderful to see you, Rolf," Katherine said, nodding at Marietta. "Do be good."
Rolf just raised his glass, watching her walk away, irritation evident. He turned to Marietta. "Sorry about that," he said, taking a drink. "She's... Katherine."
