Clint listened, brow slightly raised at her explanation. It irritated him, actually. Not the doing something nice for him but her assumption that because they might be in an argument that it meant he was going to walk out on her. Of course, it was Lexi and she automatically assumed the worst out of everyone and he really ought to realize that by now but he thought he was different. That they were different. Sure, he'd been annoyed as fuck but that didn't mean he didn't love her or want to be with her and it wasn't like Clint Bloody Warrington went around proposing to birds for fun. It was serious and the commitment he was offering her was serious.
He continued to stare at her, long after she'd stopped talking as the wheels in his head turned and he thought about, what it was, that she was going through. He didn't fully understand her sometimes and that irritated him. It especially irritated him even more when he watched Bell and Flint go about as though they'd been together forever. Hell, even Ade and Emma were practically perfect and here he was, with his best friend, and they couldn't get into one fight without her thinking he was leaving her or giving up on them. Maybe he shouldn't be irritated with it. Who knew? But he was. If perfect Adrian Pucey could cause her to react like that... what the fuck was going to happen when he fucked up?
When she mentioned the lingerie, he just snorted. "Well," he said, stretching. "You've killed it for me. Now all I can picture is Katie Bell trying to put a bra on." He shook his head. "Not a pretty sight."
He stared at her for a moment, eyes searching her face before he sat up and leaned against the headboard. "Here's the thing Lexi," he said, ignoring the blowjob comment. "You need to work on thinking people are going to abandon you. Because I'm not. But I also don't want to spend the rest of our lives knowing that every time we have a fight... you think I'm leaving. It's not happening. I didn't ask you to marry me because it was expected. I did it because I love you and I want to be with you. That hasn't changed. It's not going to change and I really, really need you to believe that."
