Lexi didn't understand what was taking him so long. There was nothing to think about. They'd fallen asleep beside each other before, she was cold and he was warm, and she adored the git even though he moved through women faster than he washed his hair ... which was a hell of a lot. When he finally did climb in behind her, she scooted over until she was cuddled up against him, cheek resting on his chest and his heartbeat echoing faintly in her ear. She enjoyed the weight of all her blankets as they settled over them and his comforting and familiar presence only added to the mix.
It was never like this with Dean. She was sure it should be, but when they did sleep beside each other there was always a space between them and neither of them seemed interested in closing that distance. "I like when you're here," she mumbled, her eyes heavier than she thought they should be just them, "warm."
While Lexi was content and cozy, Marcus was not impressed. He didn't bring women to his flat. Ever. And there was a particularly good reason for that. They were bloody hard to get out once they stepped through that door. This was his personal space and having Katie in the middle of it was simply out of place. Still, sacrifices must be made and he couldn't be sure that idiot Wood wouldn't show up and ruin his plans. He wanted to piss the idiot off, but starting a fight in the middle of Katie's apartment after they'd been seen leaving the bar together? A little over the top, even for him. He could just hear Dobbs shrill shrieking about it.
His place was all dark woods and earth tones. It suited his personality well and he had to admit, watching Bell stand there like a deer whose stalker was closing in was bloody entertaining. "What's wrong, Bell?" he asked, stepping directly into her personal space as he reached past her to hang his jacket up on the hook behind her. "Nervous?" His smirk could not be described as anything but predatory.
