Lexi was right. Katie needed to find her Gryffindor courage and get on with it. It had been a rough week. Her memory was still faulty, she hadn't received approval to get back on the pitch and with Marcus's distraction with Hannah's impending arrival… Katie was feeling oddly insecure. She knew they weren't necessarily together but at the same time, she knew they were. She wouldn't normally even bother seeking any sort of validation but Lexi had peppered her with questions and now Katie didn't know which way was up or down or left or right. So, after a day of shopping, fittings, photoshoots… Katie was actually feeling very sexy. Her hair still had that tousled, just-had-sex look. The smokey eyes were still there and underneath her sheer, grey henley and jeans. Katie had some of her new lingerie on and she felt like an idiot.
Still, she found herself standing outside of Marcus's door and she realized that she was bloody tired of being ignored. She was tired of people questioning them and she was tired of coming second to everything and everyone in her life. She did not like the idea of Marcus worrying over his bloody idiotic ex. She didn't like that his thoughts were occupied by the petite brunette and she most certainly did not like the fact that she was jealous of someone she didn't know. With the realization that she might be in love with Marcus… Katie had been giving herself a headache for the past three days. After he'd just… left, she'd been hurt. In that moment, she realized she loved him and he didn't see anything other than embarrassment. It spoke volumes, really.
Which was why, she hadn't gone in. If she went in, she wasn't sure she could not say it and she wasn't sure she could handle what his reaction would be. Silence or some pithy comment about how everyone loved him. Katie didn't want to be everyone. Finally, taking a deep breath, she rolled her eyes and pushed the door open, almost surprised to find herself still warded.
Marcus was sitting on the sofa and again, he was without a shirt. Her eyes grew wide, always mildly annoyed by how she reacted to his body. Opening her mouth to say hi, what came out next wasn't a surprise but really… she thought she'd be able to last longer than it took to close the damn front door.
"I'm in love with you," she said, paling slightly as the words tumbled out. "Oh fuck. Nevermind." Katie turned on her heel and headed back out the front door. God. She was an idiot.
