Emilia tried to grapple Jesse's unsettling emotions into submission. It would be much easier to exacerbate them, but she didn't feel like dealing with hysteria. Not that Jesse came across as the hysterical type, but she couldn't be too sure.
His resistance to her was equally unwelcome. Refusing to let her flagging patience show on her face, she took another hefty sip of her whiskey.
"Touchy," she commented dryly, setting down a glass that was swiftly on its way to being emptied. "It's not like I'm making any threats." She laughed lightly, though her laughter, for all its lightness, could be called sultry, even provocative. "I'm as harmless as harmless comes, Jesse."
