"Gus," she gave him a jokingly withering look. "What kind of girl would I be if I brought home every cake that crossed my path, hm?" The cake was for him. It'd only get tossed out at her place. She didn't spend a lot of time there and got her dessert fix at the diner.
"Enjoy the cake. It's even good with grape jelly added in the center, if you're trying to get in your fruit for the day." Her smile was broad. If there was anything resembling real grapes on the ingredient list, she'd be surprised.
Lou got up to toss out her empty beer bottle and to put her dishes in the sink. Then she could get out of his hair, though she'd really appreciated getting to hang out.
