Lou's laughter at his quip wasn't forced. Embarrassingly, she really thought it was funny. Her free hand went to cover her mouth to try to make it stop, so she didn't end up noticing right away which slice he'd taken.
"You really should," Lou agreed quickly because agreeing to someone's teasing had a better chance of throwing people off. "I'm sure I could come up with a reasonable tab - minus ingredients, electricity, refrigeration, and half the labor since you did the mixing. I could make it fair. Of course, then we might have to get the health inspector in here to okay the premises. It's the law for the production and sale of consumables. And you're a very law-abiding citizen." The last line was almost as teasing as he'd been when he clarified that he'd be paying her for the cake.
"Oh! And I almost forgot the liquor license. That could be tricky. So maybe it's better if we just call it even." She was pretty smug that she'd been able to come up with that off the top of her head. Someone else probably could have done better, but it wasn't bad for her.
